The Oculus is the head house, or main hall, of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, the formal name of the new PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) station. The Hub was designed by Santiago Calatrava, following the destruction of World Trade Center after the September 11 attack.
The structure also includes the Westfield World Trade Center mall.

Winged dove or beached whale carcass? These are just two of the descriptions being used for the $4 billion structure that encloses the World Trade Center Transportation hub in New York.
Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, I think it is a beautiful glass and steel structure. Consider it a modern - very modern - Grand Central station update. People still gaze in awe at Grand Central and people will still gaze at this structure for decades to come.
5th floor windows are reflecting the dome above the oculus.
It's exactly midnight on the clock tower. I stand inside the court building. Lights are off in the oculus. Across the street the statue of Columbia looks like a saint trying to exorcise the Romanesque Gothic horror building she stand upon.
