Camille Pissarro (1830-1903)
Garden and Henhouse at Octave Mirbeau's, Les Damps, 1892
Hasso Plattner Collection
The writer Octave Mirbeau, a close friend of Monet and Pissarro, shared the artists' enthusiasm for gardens. Pissarro painted the garden that Mirbeau planted in Les Damps in Normandy as a celebration of colors. This bourgeois idyll stands in contrast to Mirbeau's antiauthoritarian and antibourgeois writings.
The under-slung octave key on the 6M neck is truly unique in that the octave pip and octave key pad are on the bottom of the neck.
King's Super 20 and Buescher's 400 saxophones used partially under-slung neck with the octave pip in the conventional place on top of the neck. The octave mechanism caused a ring on the neck key with the octave pad at it's top center to move up off the pip. When released, the key's weight dropped it down and kept it in place.
The 6M's underslung neck key was placed entirely on the bottom of the neck. The octave pip pad on the neck is held in place by a stiff spring. The body's octave mechanism has to overcome that tension to open the neck's octave pip.
The body portion of the octave mechanism is pretty complicated, partially because the arm on the 6M body's octave mechanism that is tasked with reaching up and operating the under-slung neck's octave key has to move in the opposite direction than on other horns.
On most horns when you push down the octave key the arm that connects with the neck octave key moves in the opposite direction - away from the horn's body.
On the 6M when you press the octave key, that connecting arm goes in the same direction, moving towards the horn's body in order to operate the neck's octave key.
Tuned octave mandolin styles, G D A E. I can cheat and play her because I know the mandolin. And she sounds beautiful.
Here is an awesome wah I built, it is basically a multiple op-amp biquadratic filter with a selector switch for the range and a pot for resonance. I can take it from subtle filtering to full out oscillation. It operates from sub octave range to about the middle of a guitar spectrum. I use it for super cool bass sweeping, it rattles everything in the house, even at low volumes. It reminds me of a MuTron filter pedal, only a tad bit better in my opinion.

An evolution of some of my seed pod whistles that takes on fauna characteristics of some sort... I'm guessing that from the shape and the mud/water environment of a salamander that there is something going on here. This instrument plays a full octave...much like a traditional ocarina.

I feel sorry for Tasdique's hard disk. The autopsy was done in Timothy's room. It was Timo, Mujtaba and me.

The earlier Buescher tenors featured neck octave vents like this with four holes. The feature disappeared from later "True Tone" tenors.
So, with it being 4th of July weekend, the lakefront carnival is in full swing. There are the different rides and food booths, but there is also a beer tent set up with a space for bands to perform. My mom has a co-worker who leads a band who was playing, so we went over and saw them perform (Octave Blue, in case anyone is interested). We were worried about them being too loud (we saw them a year or two ago and they just echoed really badly), but they were quite good. As the title suggests, this was the first time I actually went into the beer tent at the carnival. Mom and I talked about taking a picture with all the carnival lights/rides/etc after this, but then it started raining so we simply ran home.
Mass for the Octave Day of Christmas, also known as the Feast of the Circumcision, and of Mary, Mother of God.
Octave One are Detroit techno innovators. The brainchild of the phenomenal Burden Brothers they have taken their sound around the globe for more than 20 years through releases on their own 430 West label, as well as touring live and DJ shows. Having collaborated with Underground Resistance and remixed the likes of Massive Attack, their sound varies from deep, vocal house to slammin' techno grooves and they are bringing their live show to Australia for the first time.
The four Mad Racketeers - Jimmi James, Zootie, Ken Cloud and Simon Caldwell - will keep the dancefloor kickin' right until the very last beat on this closing night of Beck's Festival Bar.
Playing octaves was just a coincidence. And it’s still such a challenge, like chord versions, block chords like cats play on piano. There are a lot of things that can be done with it, but each is a field of its own. I used to have headaches every time I played octaves, because it was extra strain, but the minute I’d quit I’d be all right. But now I don’t have headaches when I play octaves. American dogs and cats produce millions of tons of waste a year, and no one knows where it’s going. That’s really beginning to be looked at as a nightmare. The little five year old who’s at my house was very upset, worried about her toy kitty cat and where she was going to sleep.
