......good night......................................:-)

@{-->-- ...thank you all very much my dearest friends......................................♥

Octave Mirbeau constructed a narrative of lovers’ escape into another time and another space as a response to the apparent release from the law of gravity:

"Mademoiselle Camille Claudel has courageously confronted one of the greatest difficulties of sculpture: a dance movement. An infinite art is required, if it is not to become vulgar or remain frozen in stone. Mademoiselle Claudel has conquered that art."

Embracing one another, the woman adorably placing her head on the man’s shoulder, the couple is moving away, turning round and round in slow motion, voluptuous and chaste. They are nearly lifted off the ground, quasi-aerial, supported by a mysterious force which holds their leaning bodies in balance. They fly away, as if carried by wings. But where are they going, lost in the exaltation of their soul and flesh, so closely united? Is it towards love or towards death? The flesh is young, they palpitate with life, but the drapery which envelops and follows them, and turns round with them, clings like a shroud.

TUESDAY IN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER ...

HAPPY TUESDAY, EVERYONE!

I hope your week is going well!

I'm not sure of my ID of this beautiful flower. It didn't look like the Iris I'm familiar with. This is very short. Only a few inches from the ground. Maybe someone out there might know the correct ID. Thank you.

UPDATE: I found out today from the park ranger that this is a California Native Iris. Iris Pacifica (Pacific Coast Iris)

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. hey are very much appreciated!

Broad-winged Hawks give a plaintive, high-pitched whistle that lasts 2–4 seconds, with a short first note and a long second note: kee-eee. The male's call is an octave higher in pitch than the female's. Before moving to Massachusetts, I had never heard this unusual sound coming from a raptor. I am getting used to recognizing it now that these are the raptors I encounter most often.

This is the piece I am playing now. Lots of octaves. Feels like octave exercise.

The Grand Hotel Bellevue is a special building in the Belgian seaside resort of Westende. It is popularly called “Rotonde”.

It stands like a beacon on the seaside resort’s dike and is a living reminder of the vibrant Belle Epoque with its unique architecture. The hotel was destroyed twice by war violence, but it survived and is therefore a unique relic from a bygone era.

It was built from 1909 to 1911, based on a design by the famous architect Octave Van Rysselberghe (1855 – 1929). The building had a progressive construction method using reinforced concrete. The luxury hotel opened in June 1911 and had 120 rooms at the time. Princes, kings and rich people from all over Europe found accommodation there. After the Second World War, only the ground floor was used as a hotel. The rest of the building was converted into apartments.

In 1984 the building was protected as a monument and in 1996 the interior as well. For several years now the Rotonde has been privately owned and is no longer operated as a hotel.

L’œuvre visible actuellement n’est pas l’exemplaire original qui s’y trouvait en 2003 lors de Beaufort01. Celui-ci a déménagé cette même année à Ground Zero à New York.

The work currently visible is not the original one that was there in 2003 during Beaufort01. He moved that same year to Ground Zero in New York. This new version is significantly larger and monumental and has no attributes. The first had next to it a shovel, signal barriers and a pile of earth (Gothic). The current work has been on display at this location since 2004. It is characterized by a strange tension, due to the fusion of two worlds having nothing in common: the modern era, symbolized by the crawler tractor and the Middle Ages. , evoked by the decorations of a Gothic church.

Marquette Park is one of Gary's unexpected pleasures. Some monuments and interpretation honor the site's role in the history of aviation. Indiana's Dunes get a lot of wind.

Octave Chanute shared his findings with the Wright Brothers, who chose Kitty Hawk instead of Indiana Dunes for their own flights.

This remote Monastery (aka abbey) was built in 1830 close to Gardiki (one of the Aspropotamos villages in Trikala County, Greece).

The monastery celebrates on August 23, i.e. on the “Apodosis” of the Assuption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Apodosis (“giving-back”) is the last (8th) day of an ecclesiastical “Octave” or “Afterfeast” with repetition of hymns. Vespers are also chanted there in the previous evening (on Aug 22). The church is completely surrounded (or overwhelmed) by an abundance of lush green vegetation.

Aspropótamos (Greek for “White River”) is a toponym for the 2nd largest Greek river, Acheloös or Achelōos. Achelōos runs for 220 km (137 mi) prior to disgorging its waters into the Ionian Sea. The precipitous flow of the river causes its crystal-clear waters to splash and foam over the many stones scattered throughout the river bed; the White River toponym emanates from the white foam occurring all along the river. Achelōos was worshipped as a god in ancient Greece (son of Ocean and Tēthys or Ocean and Naïás).

"The statue entitled Pax was sculpted by Octave Rotsaert (21st July 1885 – 26th March 1964) a Bruges born sculptor and painter. He trained in Paris and in 1927 sculpted Pax in plaster of Paris which was awarded a medal of honour. When he returned to Bruges Rotsaert did not have enough money to cast the statue in bronze and it was left in his workroom. It was noticed by Doctor Louis De Winter, a lover of art and he decided that one day he would arrange for it to be cast. After World War II, Dr Louis De Winter wanted to celebrate the end of war with a symbol of peace, but wasn’t sure what to do. He was a head of department in the hospital and often walked in the courtyard. He then remembered the Pax sculpture and together with the ‘Friends of Bruges’ arranged for it to be cast in Bronze in a studio in Ghent.

It was erected in the courtyard in the winter of 1947 with no announcement or ceremony, but has now become a much loved piece of art in this spiritual home of real monks for many hundreds of years".

When I visited the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, IL on the grounds of the decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base back in 2011, it was already facing financial hardship. There were no lights on inside the hanger that housed many of the aricraft. The interior was lit only by light coming through the windows, which actually contributed to some cool photos. Unfortunately the museum closed permanently on November 1, 2015. A good portion of the aircraft on display along with other items were dispersed to other museums, and the rest unfortunately were scrapped.

Clifton, Arizona, USA. Once a booming copper mining town but now mostly declining or already in decay and the majority of people and business have moved just up the road to Morenci. The Freeport McMoRan copper mine located in Morenci is one of the largest in the world

Cliff dwellings along the San Francisco and Gila Rivers are evidence of an advanced civilization that existed long before Caesar ruled Rome. Many specimens of pottery and stone implements are still to be found in these ancient dwelling places. In the mid-1500s, both Fray Marcos de Niza and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado passed through the area, following the San Pedro north to the Gila River. Geronimo was born in 1829 near the confluence of Eagle Creek and the San Francisco and Gila Rivers.

In 1856 the first mineral discoveries of the Morenci/Clifton area were found by California volunteers pursuing Apaches, and conflicts between the Apaches and advancing Anglo settlers touched off a 26-year-long war. Mining for gold and silver began in 1864, followed by copper in 1872, and the mine at Morenci quickly grew to become the largest copper producer in North America. Clifton's population ballooned from 600 in 1880 to 5000 by 1910, and it quickly earned its reputation as the wildest of the "Wild West" boomtowns. Neighboring Morenci was swallowed up by an open pit mine in the 1960s, but Clifton was preserved, and today Chase Creek Street is still graced with lovely Victorian-era buildings from the town's halcyon days as the place to quickly make and lose a fortune.

In 1983, Clifton survived two nearly fatal blows, first a nearly three-year-long strike that began on June 30, 1983. Then later that same year, on October 2, 1983, Tropical Storm Octave sent 90,900 cubic feet of water per second into the San Francisco River, which burst its banks, destroying 700 homes and heavily damaging 86 of the town's 126 businesses

Hammer scale (or anvil dust) is simply flakes of oxidised white to red hot steel released by hammer blows. It is not an octave created by a hammer on an anvil when forging a hatchet from a piece of truck spring.

In the forge again armed with the Nikon Z6 and a vintage Nikkor 105mm f/1.8 AI-S.

The lens came from fleabay as a box of parts. The previous (late) owner pulled it down and was apparently unable to rebuild it. Such a shame for the guy - the lens has around 5mm of left hand thread that works counter to the helicoid. If you don't know it's there you just can't see how it's put together.

He'd clearly given it everything to get it apart, drilled holes, mounted it in a vice, given it heaps with a pipe wrench etc... As it was I had to heat it with the propane torch to get it to let go and then spend several hours lapping the slightly deformed helicoid with toothpaste before cleaning and re-greasing to make the focus smooth as silk again.

The optical block was perfect. Fabulous lens to use in the forge. Plenty fast and just the right length to get in tight but not be in the way. I have the camera's movie button re-configged to give me the zoomed focus assist for moments like this.

I'm stampolina and I love to take photos of stamps. Thanks for visiting this pages on flickr.

I'm neither a typical collector of stamps, nor a stamp dealer. I'm only a stamp photograph. I'm fascinated of the fine close-up structures which are hidden in this small stamp-pictures. Please don't ask of the worth of these stamps - the most ones have a worth of a few cents or still less.

By the way, I wanna say thank you to all flickr users who have sent me stamps! Great! Thank you! Someone sent me 3 or 5 stamps, another one sent me more than 20 stamps in a letter. It's everytime a great surprise for me and I'm everytime happy to get letters with stamps inside from you!

thx, stampolina

For the case you wanna send also stamps - it is possible. (...I'm pretty sure you'll see these stamps on this photostream on flickr :) thx!

The Folk Marches of Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse find their origins in the banal cross processions of the Middle Ages. These took place in the octave of Pentecost and were intended to pay homage and allow the payment of the mite to the neighboring suzerain abbey on which the clergy depended.

The military escort which accompanied them was intended to enhance its splendor but also to protect the pilgrims against the gangs of thugs who were roaming our region at that time. These special companies of archers and crossbowmen called "oaths" were the ancestors of the walkers.

It was during the 18th century that a major crisis struck our Marches because more and more these ceremonies became a pretext for having fun and making fun of religion, which did not please the clergy who banned these demonstrations.

Customs resumed in 1802 after the concordat signed between Napoleon I and Pope Pius VII. It was at this time that the Marches took on new development and became military escorts.

Regarding the costumes adopted in our demonstrations today, they are from the first and second empire. On this subject, it is certain that we first marched in the first empire because many cast-offs from Napoleon's army were available in our regions. As these uniforms deteriorated, our Walkers adopted the military costumes of the era which immediately followed, that is to say the uniforms we call the Second Empire.

Although the religious aspect does not seem predominant, it is still a religious procession with the release of the reliquary and patron saints, blessings, mass, etc.

One of the strongest moments of Saint Hubert’s Day is the famous square battalion. A solemn moment, full of tradition and with a codified and immutable sequence. It begins with a review of the troops, followed by discharges and rolling fire.

"Caterpillar & Flatbed Trailer" by Wim Delvoye (B)

location: Zeedijk tussen Louis Logierlaan en Octave Van Rysselbergheplein

Middelkerke-Westende

(Beaufort03)

The Caterpillar by Wim Delvoye has been on the sea wall of Middelkerke since 2003. The copy that is now on display, however, is not the original one. The original work moved that same year to Ground Zero in New York. The current Caterpillar has been around since 2004 and was given a spectacular extension in May 2019 with the accompanying Flatbed Trailer. Together they form a new, impressive 21-meters long artwork. Caterpillar + Flatbed Trailer belongs to Delvoyes Caterpillar series from 2002. With this collection of remarkable construction machines, he forges a timeless melting point between the past and the present. In this work, the caterpillar tractor symbolizes modern times and the decorative patterns of a Gothic church represent the medieval world.
