Octave Tassaert 1800-1874 Frankrijk

The Octave of Easter, known as Low Sunday, Quasimodo Sunday, has also come to be known in more recent times as "Divine Mercy Sunday." It was through St. John Paul II that the Octave of Easter received this new title in the Church's calendar. Drawing inspiration from the diary of Sister Faustina, the Octave of Easter has received a renewed emphasis on the mercy of God.

In a beautiful homily delivered on this day by St. Augustine of Hippo, he declared to the newly baptized, "You have been buried with Christ by baptism into death in order that, as Christ has risen from the dead, you also may walk in newness of life." For it was traditionally on this day that the Church received her newly baptized catechumens with maternal delight. Holy Mother Church rejoiced over her new children, all of which is made possible by the mercy of God in calling us to Himself while we were yet sinners.

St. Faustina recorded these words from our Lord Himself: "I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy." May we turn with trust to the Divine Mercy of Almighty God and seek Him in all things.

One of several new, full octave ocarinas in my "Escape" series of ceramic musical instruments. Just as the music/tones 'escape' from an instrument, these character faces are attempting to escape from the boundaries of their clay forms.

Stoneware clay ocarina is intended to be both decorative as well as fully functional. On display, I am thinking that these need to be suspended on flat, wall-mounted panels. This piece will fire to approximately 10" in length... the Horned 'bell" is purely decorative. Eight tone holes produce one octave plus one note in this instance. Fingering approximates that of a penny whistle or song flute.

This is a clone of the old Fender Blender fuzz/octave pedal. It's kind of like an Ampeg Scrambler...sort of. You can fade in the clean signal.

Now, a word of warning. If you fade completely to the clean signal, the level is lower than your direct signal bypassing the pedal. This is an issue with the circuit, but of course nobody's going to buy this pedal to fade completely to the clean tone. With some of the effected signal, "Blended" in your effected signal will have a significant volume boost over your direct signal, if that's what you want. It doesn't take much blending to get to unity gain.

At the highest distortion settings, you're going to hear some octave effects on the high notes. This is natural. Well, not, "natural," but it's what this circuit does. It's kind of an insane fuzz. Which is good for people who like that kind of thing, but can be a strange surprise if you were expecting a Fuzz Face.

The Yellow LED is beside the effect on/bypass footswitch. The Red LED is by the, "Boost" footswitch. That should be explained, as well. This circuit gets a boost through bypassing the Tone control. Tone controls that aren't active suffer from something called, "Insertion Loss." Meaning that by existing, they're robbing the circuit of some signal. Which is why some amps with 20 knobs don't sound as good as simpler amps. In any case, this circuit gets a big gain boost that you can kick in my bypassing the Tone control. Depending on the sound of your guitar through this pedal, that can be a cool thing or a less than cool thing. Best to engage the boost, see which of your instruments sounds best through the pedal and then remember that if you want to kick it on and off during a song.

So there's my big explanation of the Blender circuit.

The Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum, the largest aviation museum in Illinois, occupies part of the grounds of the decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. It and the base were named for Octave Chanute, railroad engineer and aviation pioneer. The museum is dedicated to the life and works of Chanute, the former air base, the history of aviation in the state of Illinois.

The museum shut it's doors forever on 30th December 2015 due to financial issues.
