this was a really short notice shoot, day before put together. so no concept or real time to find a back ground, so we shot in three different places all located near ethan and sarah's house. one was a gas station, another in front of ethans house and another spot on the gas station. we shot at 9 p.m. so i was at a major disadvantage not having an interesting back ground and shooting at night. sarah and our friend robert helped big time holding and lights and with setup/breakdown with out them shoot woulda taken about 4 hours instead of 2 so big big thanks.
***all locations were in pitch black no ambient light settings so take that into consideration before commenting ***

Lighting info
Main light from a Profoto ComPact 600R in a 5 foot Octabox (150 cm) very close to models, just out of frame camera left. Added a fill screen on the other side to lighten up the shadows a bit. Behind model I placed another Profoto Compact with a grid to act as hairlight. The graduated tone on the background comes from a flash in a gridded reflector just behind the model aimed at the background .

Pixel Shift with Nikon NX Studio
Focus stacking with Zerene Stacker
Pixel Shift is an option where the camera moves the sensor during a series of captures. This series is then merged in the Nikon NX Studio software. In this case, the pixel shift option was set to the maximum capture option of 32 images. The camera exposed an image then moved the sensor… about half the width of a single pixel… and exposed the next one. For 32 images. Those 32 NEF (RAW) files were merged into one massive NEFX raw file that now has a resolution of about 180,000,000 pixels.
Focus Shift Shooting is an option where the camera makes an exposure then shifts focus to a different plane and makes another exposure. The cool part is that the camera is automatically setting the shift movement so that a series of images can be stacked on post in such a way to increase the depth of the PLANE of focus. This results in a subject the can have a nearly unlimited amount of the subject focus. Not just more depth of field, but depth of actual in focus.
The Z8 FW 3.0 is the first time anyone has offered both at the same time on a full frame professional camera.

Not finished on this one, but I thought I should share what I'm working on.
This past November, I flew to San Diego to do a shoot for the Outdoor Channel. I'm still busy working on the files, but here's one that I've completed. The creative team at the Outdoor Channel came up with the idea, and I executed the plan. I'll be sure to post some of the magazine spreads once they've been printed. The ad is layed out this way for text flow, and once the text has been placed, it will look much more realistic.
This file has a goofy color profile, so I apologize if it's too dark, or too saturated for your monitor.

Acute D4 Ring, 1200r.
Shot with a Canon 5d, at 28mm.
Shot in the home studio with one centrally placed overhead octabox, tilted towards Caitlin's face, a white reflector under her face, and a led lamp illuminating the backdrop. This is similar to a setup shared by Joel Grimes.
I cleared some facial blemishes, slightly lit up the eyes, adjusted the white balance, sharpened and the usual small contrast and saturation adjustments. Shot in RAW, about one stop underexposed.
