Today’s young ladies feel that wearing various colorful nurses scrubs also provides a touch of youthfulness to their overall postures. No longer, you need to sit in a mundane atmosphere of a typical hospital; rather you’d get to see healthcare people experimenting with their colors of clothes.

In winter 2014 I spent two months in a nursing home in a village in Serbia. These dear old people have become my friends. They bought me tangerines. Shared their lunch with me. Ther were telling me their sad and happy memories. How are they spending their time. Where are their children. Why are they here.

It wasn't Veteran's Day or Memorial Day or even the 4th of July, but in the grand ballroom of the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton in Alsip, it looked like all three celebrations rolled into one.
On Tuesday, October 15th, Cook County Commissioner, Joan Murphy, along with Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Dignity Memorial and Double Tree Hotel by Hilton sponsored and hosted the 2nd annual "Salute to Our Armed Forces" celebration. Men and women who have served during war as well as peace time were honored for their contributions and their sacrifices. Guest speakers included Joan Murphy and Col. Jill Morgenthaler (Retired). After inspirational speeches, prayers for POWs and MIAs, and flag presentations, every veteran present went up to be announced by name, branch of service and war served.
The Col. highlighted her career, from being one of the first women to ever join ROTC, to being the first female commander in the Army Security Agency Group in Korea, and many other firsts/achievements throughout her long career. Col. Morgenthaler's devotion to all veteran's is evident when she speaks, letting civilians see the level of loyalty and true camaraderie among all that have served.
Once the colonel was finished, the different branches were called and each veteran present was announced by name and given a medallion and a certificate. The Pointe attended with four residents who had served:
Hank Z. - Marines
Martha K. - Army
Bob S. - Air Force
Lester J. - Army
Overall, the presentation was inspiring and heart warming. It was nice to see so many men and women honored for their duty. There were veterans who looked like they were barely out of their teens to men and women who were in their late 90s. It was also a nice reminder that we don't need a calendar to tell us when to appreciate our veterans; any day, including a rainy Tuesday in October can be that day.
A huge thanks to all of those that made this day and this celebration possible!!
