EfÃgie do cientista Augusto Ruschi (1915-1986), ladeada por alegorias de flora e fauna, destacando-se uma representação da Cattleya labiata warneri, uma orquÃdea que, com dezenas de variedades, é a mais tÃpica do EspÃrito Santo e a maior flor do gênero no Brasil.
Nota: A Cattleya labiata var. warneri (T.Moore ex R.Warner). hoje denominada simplesmente Cattleya warneri T.Moore ex R.Warner, Select Orchid. Pl.: t. 8 (1862) englobando todas as inúmeras variações de tipos e cores existentes.

Made from lined & plain office paper, as well graph paper. Double sided decorative scrapbook paper from MME. File folders altered as well as pink paper bags fill this album which include many additional journaling cards. Binding is hand sewn pages. Fabric binding on outside. Covers are recycled cardboard. Handmade flowers, paper doilies & stickers adorn front & back. Silver beads hand from 2 bookmarks & from outside binding.

In process, acrylic on paper. Text taken from printed notes (in a phonetics primer from 1912) instructing the teacher how to go about applying the primers lessons to the children. Then redacting the notes to abstract and play up the absurdity in the text. Dimensions 15" by 6"
Immature male Great Blue Skimmer (Libellula vibrans) - The Double Blue Trail (a.k.a. The Red Trail), The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge Wilderness Area, New Jersey
This brightly colored freshly hatched male has yet to develop the pruinosity that will eventually turn him the dull blue and white of a mature male. The female is very similar in color, though she will have a flared abdomen at segments 9 and 10,
and will naturally be missing the male genitalia.
Those of us who have been hiking the wilderness areas of The Great Swamp NWR for many years originally knew the Red Trail as the Double Blue since it is an alternate route off the Blue Trail that begins and ends on the Blue trail.
If you decide to hike the Blue Trail this year, be prepared to do some serious bush-whacking since the "sequester" has defunded the college students that normally maintain the wilderness trails at The Great Swamp NWR, and the trails have reverted back to the wild to the point where it took all of my woodsman-ship to identify and stay on the trail which would likely have totally disappeared if it were not for the deer and bears that also use the wilderness trails.

When inserting yourself into the picture for some perspective, it's always a good idea to pay attention to what you look like from behind. In this case, I completely forgot about my hat, which I had turned around backwards so it wouldn't get in the way of the camera viewfinder.

family and friends always get the thrown together cake. I did this all today for Alices friend Karas party tonight. Her favourite colour is purple and she sings. Husband was strutting about in a bad mood slaming cupboard doors and grunting when I did the lines. Three year old perched himself next to me to "help" when I glued on the notes. The top teir is accually a dummy and thats another story involving a batch of ganache that refused to set! Kara loved her cake. It looks alot better in the real, The top cake and cupcakes have been sprinkled with magic sparkles which cant be seen in the photo

A note for Rachel. I love the raw edges and the fold creases (even though you can't see them in this pic since I'd just ironed it). I think they make it seem more like a real handwritten note.
