Happy Last Week in July,
Hard to believe we're nearly 7/12ths done with 2015. Speaking of time flying, while at dinner at my folks' place this week, Nana trotted out a box of Lego I played with as a kid. Seeing toys I loved, 30 years later, left me with a wide smile. I instantly started piecing together familiar, but forgotten bricks. Watching the boys enjoy the toys widened my grin. Was nice to see that circle close. Thank you Nana for giving me the same great gift a second time.
If you'll remember my mail from last week... We killed Ellie, the boys' goldfish, in less than 24 hours. Naturally, we endeavor to teach our kids the power of persistence in the face of adversity. So, to that end, this week, we acquired 7 new goldfish and a second goldfish bowl. New fish. New equipment. Same result. 7 dead gold fish, and another gold fish funeral, in less than 48 hours. #BestParentsEver We're going to take a little gold fish break over here.
Was time this week for my annual jam batch. Pluot on Monday and Mango Habanero on Sunday. Both were might tasty if I do say so myself. Come on by and I'll happily share.
Saturday was soccer day. The boys had their customary morning practice, which preceded a very special treat. I was given a gift of four tickets to see Manchester United play Futbol Club Barcelona at Levi's Stadium in the afternoon. As one friend said: "You're setting the bar pretty high there, Mike." ManU and Futbol Club Barcelona are two of the world's most prestigious soccer teams. For the boys get to experience this as their first game was a unique opportunity indeed. The twins had a great time, left it all on the field, and crashed on the train ride home. I was particularly proud of the thank you notes they wrote to their benefactor.
Happy, lucky, and thankful. It's a great way to live.
Have a wonderful week.
Mike

This is the way a "note" used to be sent. This is part of a collection of old correspondence, christmas cards, post cards and valentine cards that I've had for years.
It seems I am sooo behind that I lost track of the deadline dates! lol Well I can't post it to the challenge but I can share with my contacts! Maybe I should make a "note" of challange deadline dates!
*Note this tram was withdrawn in the early months of 2006 following a collision. Placed into storage at Glenhuntly Depot and used for spare parts.
The Ideas Notes page got too long. It is broken up in two parts, now.
These two indexes show what is on each page:
Ideas:
- BY DESIGN.
- MODERN SENTENCES.
- BRAND NEW, OLD SAYINGS.
- OBSERVATIONS.
- HUMANS ARE ARTISTS.
- ABIT. A BIT. ALOT. A LOT.
- ODD EFFECTS OF SMALL AND BIG.
- U.S. IS A WORLD MEETING.
- "THE HARD WAY".
- JOKE IDEA.
- PASCAL.
- MONEY.
- BUILDING 7.
Ideas 02:
- ARCHIVE SET NOTE. SIGNED WORK NOTE for the future.
- HUMANS ARE ARTISTS is on both pages on purpose.
- TO, TOO and TWO.
-
___
ARCHIVE SET NOTE. SIGNED WORK NOTE for the future.
Trying to really get an image of everything in here. good luck.
The criteria is an archive of signed work.
___
The implication of this is that unsigned work is to be discarded. (There is enough junk in the world.)
I know I cause confusion and torn feelings with this. The reason that unsigned work is not already discarded (which would solve the problem) is that it is simply unfinished or is useful (stimulates energy and ideas) in the studio.
If I get a chance, I'll get rid of alot of stuff myself.
The above is stated in black and white. There is a color version- a chink in the armor:
If a family member wants to take a sketched idea or an unfinished painting and work on it, go for it. That's an honor.
There is a tradition of finishing music for late composers, like Mozart and Schubert.
Don't try to finish works the way you think I would have finished it. Just take it where it goes. Where I left off, I didn't know what was next.
___
[ this is more in the Observations category. don't see anything there, yet about humans-are-artists:
HUMANS ARE ARTISTS-
___
Karl put in Einstein quote on Facebook:
Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
HUMANS ARE ARTISTS.
‎- from Karl.
- this fits with HUMANS ARE ARTISTS.
- Picasso said this long before i did:
www.flickr.com/photos/doneastwest/58619011/in/photostream/
- and there is this from Sara:
www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=zDZFc...!
- at counter 08:25 they show results of a divergent thinking test: 98% of kindergarten kids rated at GENIUS level. (the level drops as people get older, sad to say.)
- same here, in the trailer for "1000 Journals":
- the author asks, "What happened to us?" he says, "If you ask a group of kindergarderers, "Raise your hand if you're an artist.", every single one will raise their hand. (this, too, fades in the higher grades.)
- classic line in the movie "Cherry" (2010), from an encouraging father and a discouraging mother on the issue of art:
Father:
"Why don't you take a painting course?"
Mother:
"He's going to an Ivy League school, not summer camp."
- The word, 'talent' is problematic, because humans are artists
___
- TO, TOO and TWO.
- i've made several attempts to explain the spelling. this is the latest one:
"There are too many 'O's in 'too'. To be specific, there are two."
___

I have a test today. I am writing out the bits about anatomy, because that is what I forget the quickest. Bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons... our test today is on the feet, and the lower and upper legs.
Osborne prototype's Seymour Duncan PAF pickup, as produced in about 1981, which is when I had the originals replaced with the SDs. The original pickups were Bartolini High-As that produced way too much highs and not enough mids and lows.
Note the 00006 just below the 22nd fret. Of the fifteen prototypes made, this one is serial number 6.
