... of the optical kind, notes that remind you of the past amidst all the glossy and textureless newness of the present that has no future so as to ever become the past that was.

Today's main activity was to write my thank you notes for my holiday gifts. While I didn't get a lot of gifts in terms of quantity, they were all items that I wanted. Some were pricey, and I didn't expect to get them, but due to hubby taking up a collection, I even got the suitcase I wanted....
Which I might get to put to good use if I tag along with him as a stowaway to Singapore! ;)
The chair came from ebay (my apologies--I forgot to note the name of the doll artist I bought them from!). The rugs are a placemat from IKEA and a candle mat. Windows are Houseworks playscale windows, painted, with shots of the Mojave dessert behind them. The wardrobe is a jewellery box with the glass covered by Mahogany wood veneer. The plant was made by me. The basket came from ebay, as did the wire and rattan chair, and Barbie mirror which i repainted. The "wood" floor is butcher's block contact paper.
The mirror above the washstand is also a 1:12 dollhouse mirror. The washstand is a repainted Barbie piece, and pitcher and basin from ebay.

The symphony of construction continues in the River North area of Chicago.
(As an aside, what do you think about aka darkening the shadows of the windows? Is the lumber framing work in the background distracting or does it enhance the photo?)
I keep a separate notebook for each of the "compartments" of my job. I scribble on the covers of the little black moleskines, cover my Doanes, and display my Field Notes with pride!
Sometimes I find visual context helps when writing code. This is one example of a scratchpad for random thoughts.
Usually when I'm thinking in terms of coordinates, rows and columns or pixels as they relate to a grid pattern like this, it helps to draw outlines showing how the numbers correlate to the visuals.
In this case it was the "grid" (columns and rows of thumbnails) that I was working on. I knew scrolling, selection and rearrange would be important interactions that would need to be hashed out, once the photo items themselves has been defined as objects in JavaScript.
Later, primary controllers to be defined in JavaScript included the "display" (responsible for the current view), selection, events and state (sessionData) along with a few performance / browser limitation notes.
More fun background details on the grid are planned for a future code.flickr blog post.
Eyeballs on 20 different banknotes from 20 different countries. I love how the eyeballs are drawn differently for each bank note's engraving. Photos taken using a version of Kenji Yoshino's wonderful $10 Microscope (see his $10 Microscope Instructable).
