“Sometimes it’s easy just to get… stuck. Stuck with what’s comfortable, stuck in what we know, what we think makes us happy.”
I heard this quote in an intro to a song recently and it struck a cord with me personally.
While 2014 is coming to end, I look back on all of the memories and places I traveled to. In 2015, I already have at least one west coast trip planned and several other trips that I'm still trying to iron out plans for.
With that said, I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year!

It was very cute watching her flit from bud to bud to drink nectar out of the plant.
UPDATE: Wow! This photo made it to the Flickr "Explore" page for August 1, 2019 (No. 447 out of 500). Hello to all my new visitors and welcome!
Some days ago I took a closer look at Nik´s Analog Efex Pro, this is one of the results :)
Shot on my way home from work.
A day out to Wightwick Manor - (National Trust) - in Wolverhampton.
Please excuse the terrible quality of the interior images ... the Manor House is very dark inside and I had to push my ISO up to 6400 resulting in very noisy images ! :-(
When Theodore Mander commissioned the building of a new manor on Wightwick Bank in the Old English style in 1887 he started the Mander family's love for Victorian art & design which would unfold over a century of collecting and preservation.
My thanks as always to Jeff D. for the lift and opportunity to get some images today.
While on the east coast, we had to go to an obligatory crab shack. This one was on the banks of the Potomac river, about 1 hour south of Washington DC.
45 images were captured right as the sun was setting and I was lucky enough that the light didn't change as I made a full 360° rotation with my pano head.
I also just printed this out, 24" x 7' without interpolation, pretty awesome looking too! Plenty of reasons to love my D800 :)
experienced as I pointed my phone at the sun in my yard.
listening to Billy Thorpe's "Children of the Sun"
Seen at the "Jungfraujoch", Europe´s highest railway station.
The basic b&w edit was done with Nik´s Silver Efex Pro. I wanted another size than the original 4:3 ratio from my point-and-shoot-Canon, so after that I used the Liquid-Rescaling-Filter for Gimp for a 3:2 format, because of compo-reasons I didn´t want to cut the image.
This shot has been taken during one of my sunrise sessions in Rosolina Mare (see my What a meaningful world... for information about that peculiar location).
In its conception this is a humble shot, just the first of a series of exposure bracketings to be stitched and blended into a panorama. Not enough spare time even to think of such an endeavour now - but I have realized that this shot could have a life of its own, so I have processed it and... here it is.
I was fascinated by the rampant, mighty, glowing cloud on the left - something like a rampart against the shadows of the night - and this "detail" of that sunrise puts it in the limelight. Hope that you will enjoy this view, my friends!
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
This is a shot from the city side of the Arch looking back towards the river and Illinois. These brackets were 10 seconds, 25 seconds, and 75 seconds. At first I didn't like the stars moving but they are growing on me. It shows off the moment(s) in time that this was taken. Please let me know what you all think as any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. Enjoy!
An abstract image of the beach at Cramond, near Edinburgh, Scotland at low tide. I liked the textures and patterns that had been left by the receding tide.
Edited (very briefly) in Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro.
Reflection of Almas Tower, Platinum Tower and AU Tower, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, UAE.
Post-processing: 7 manual blending exposures processed with CC. Fake reflection was done with new flipped motion blurred layer. Some more adjustment was done by Nik software (Pro Contrast, Sunlight filter, Vivenza and Brilliance/Warmth filter)

“There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
~Anais Nin
I could't believe the sky when I got out of work tonight, without a doubt the most beautiful clouds I can ever remember seeing. Sadly I wasn't someplace where I could really take advantage of them, and I only had my old G11 with me.
Something a little different from me (processing wise).
Thoughts, critiques and criticisms are welcome.
Vakantie Münster: bezoek Schloss Nordkirchen, stad Münster (o.a. kerken, Friedenssaal, burg en dierentuin), burg Vischering.
Schloss Nordkirchen is een paleis in de Duitse gemeente Nordkirchen. Het werd gebouwd in de periode van 1703 tot 1734 in barokke stijl. Het wordt door zijn omvang ook wel het Westfaalse Versailles genoemd.
Parys Mountain is a disused copper mine first established in the bronze age, and now a way marked trail centering on the old mill at the top.
Due to the high level of soil contamination, little life survives on or near the mountain, but there are a number of examples of rare plants and bacteria.
It is a spectacular sight on a bright sunny day and well worth a visit if you're in the area.
The trouble with our age is all signposts and no destination.

Thanks alot for the latest explores! It's absolutely awesome:)
We could see our mountain hut for hours. We were so close and yet so far :D
The Sigma 35mm 1.4 did a really good job, it's now one of my favourite lenses:)
Thanks for your support! Have a great week:)
