Damp night in the neighbourhood, the first day of December 2018. The year is coming to its end damn fast...

Taken with my new Xiaomi Mi 8 smartphone. Wide-angle lens, default camera app, on full auto mode - this is almost straight out of the camera, no editing except cropping it to cinematic 2.39:1 aspect and some levels tweaking. Not bad for a mid-range phone, I'm sure my old DSLR wouldn't be able to match this image quality, regardless of the lens.

We went out last night to photograph meteors. We saw a few but not the shower we expected. The stars were beautiful and even the city lights in the distance was unexpectedly interesting. So, what to do? We decided to try and capture the stars and the city lights and the using flashlights we painted the scene with light.

"Night Lights"

A friend and I went to shoot the Milky Way this weekend. We both had new cameras, new lenses, and had never shot the night sky at this location before. There was a lot of fumbling around in the dark as we tried to figure out various things, but I think we both managed to come home with a decent image.

The SSRMS, also known as Canadarm2 for those who don't like acronyms, and DEXTRE, the two-armed smaller robot, hanging out in front of our window and lighting up their red lights at night. Feels like the deck of a ship in the night!

Walking around downtown isn't something I often do at night, but when I do, I'm reminded how cute and unique our little city is and how much it's changed over the years. As it begins to get cooler here, more people come out into the night life and it makes the city feel so much more alive then the hot summer nights. This is the start to my favorite time of year.

December 2011

My trips to San Jose have started to include an obligatory dinner with flickr friends and tonight we decided to go out and do some night sky photography. We were well equipped - I had forgotten my coat and gloves so Cynthia came well supplied and, with a stroke of genius, Rebekah had some hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps!

This was shot facing north for 30sec at ISO 3200.

Always interesting what is discovered wandering village streets at night. Che lives. Santa Fe de la Laguna, Michoacan, Mexico.

After photographic paradise Paris, back in my hometown Tilburg, The Netherlands. I was looking for something special for my town. I went to the little harbor we have and found these rowingboats.

The text on the boat is: "Ontdek Tilburg", which means "Discover Tilburg"

A peaceful night with some music...

A month ago I became an inhabitant of the legendary Olydorf. I was looking forward to bring a whole lot of photos from the Olympic village daily life, but so far I really haven't managed to do so... Could this be a first one? A night at Oly!

The histories that shaped today.

All the long gone festivities.

The outlined visions.

The political alignments.

And the imposed norms.

The threat of penalization.

To systemize accountability.
