Monday, September 9th a new group of VISTAs at the Maryland Out of School Time Network came together for orientation and a 911 service project at the Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center. The Maryland Out of School Time Network VISTA Team will be focusing on projects to support out of school time programs for youth throughout the state of Maryland including the promotion of STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) Education, hunger prevention, launch of the Baltimore City robotics center, and creation of platforms for youth engagement. To get the VISTAs off to a great start, they visited the new Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center, a community innovation site and education beta lab in Baltimore City, and volunteered to beautify their grounds and make their outdoor space welcoming.

This tower is an old fairground ride, semi derelict, only used as a phone mast these days. The Polo Tower, named after it's initial sponsorship with a brand of mints, is painted blue and green in the style of a packet of Polo mints.
The scaffolding is temporary until some repairs and repainting are done. I would like to thank the person responsible for deciding to clothe the tower in this green and blue net in a repeating pattern for it's entire 50 metre height. An unnecessary act for a temporary utilitarian stucture but a welcome one.
Team members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District, talked to students at SUNY Buffalo State College during a networking event, as part of Hispanic Heritage month, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012.

Photos from the Social Networking Conference taking place on January 22 - 23, 2009 in Miami. SNC2009 in Miami was one of the largest collection social networking executives ever assembled. Well over 480 social networking executives, marketing / advertising firms, venture capitalists, affiliate managers, payment processors, background search companies, affiliates and portal webmasters were in attendance.
Stockholm's main airport, Arlanda, is around 40 kms north of the city centre and was connected up to the rail network in the late 1990s. There are two routes and three stations.
Arlanda Centralstation is on the loop off and back on to the main Stockholm to Uppsala line. This is served by SL Commuter trains, private operators Upptåget and Mälartåg with long distance SJ services picking up northbound and setting down southbound.
Branching off the loop is a short dead end line with two stations - Arlanda Södra (south) and Arlanda Norra (north). These are served exclusively by private operator Arlanda Express. Charging premium fares like London's Heathrow Express fortunately is valid with the InterRail pass which I was travelling on for this trip. Otherwise a round trip was SEK579 (approx £47/€55) for the 18 minute journey.
Typically, Arlanda Norra was like almost every other airport station built in the last few decades - spacious and no natural daylight. I skipped taking a photo there and instead took one on arrival back at Stockholm Centralstation. Not much better, but these were the only opportunity to get photos of one of their 7 unique GEC Alsthom 4-car units. Unit X3 3 having arrived in on train 7827, 11:05 Arlanda Norra to Stockholm Centralstation.
