A friend, Larry Pulley, is privileged to have this Cedar Waxwing nest in his Lewiston backyard, 15 feet off the ground and 10 feet from his patio.

There are a total of five young birds, all look as tho they will fledge today.

Bird Nest

The nest failed about 3 weeks ago. There had been an intruder eagle clash 2 weeks ago, but I saw both resident eagles safe in their nest after the battle. On 22 February an adult was found incapacitated on the church property near the nest. The eagle died enroute to the rehab center. A necropsy is planned. Today no eagles were at the nest. An intruder, about 3 years old passed by. An adult eagle circled low over the nest and away out of my view. I hope the future brings the surviving eagle a strong mate.

One of the first things Karen and I saw as we started our rain forest tour in Arenal was this tiny hummingbird's nest. I wish I had a coin or something to show a comparable size, but at least you get the idea from the leaf next to it.

O 1º Arraiá de Contagem levou muita festa, comidas e bebidas típicas, trajes e enfeites característicos da época, e atrações diversas para a Regional Industrial, nesta sexta-feira (15/7). Desde às 18h, no CSU Industrial, começou um grande movimento, que foi crescendo e ocupou boa parte do espaço destinado ao público, que pôde presenciar a dupla sertaneja João Marcos e Maurinho, a Quadrilha Chic-Chic e o piseiro do Bonde do Cabaré.

Momento de confraternização entre amigos, famílias e casais. Desde o seu início, o 1º Arraiá de Contagem tem crescido, atraindo cada vez mais público, que interagem e aproveitam o momento juntos. Além disso, contou a prefeita Marília Campos, as festas realizadas esse ano também são oportunidades para artistas que a população não conhece, se apresentarem e mostrarem seus talentos. "Estamos conhecendo muita gente e a cidade conhecendo seus artistas. É algo que muito nos orgulha. Além disso, o número de pessoas nessas confraternizações mostra um fortalecimento da nossa cultura e que Contagem está no caminho certo", completou.

Marília voltou a falar sobre o incentivo aos grupos juninos e espera que cada regional tenha pelo menos um grupo desse tipo de dança típica. "No futuro queremos fazer um grande arraiá. Temos, aqui ao lado, o Arraiá de Belô, que é um sucesso. E o nosso, que começou esse ano, também está sendo um sucesso", disse.

"Os arraiais, que estão pela primeira vez nas oito regionais, trazem uma identidade, uma cultura de contagense para contagense, que faz a economia girar, que revela novos talentos. É importante viver esse momento, que a gente confraternize, se conheça, se sinta contagense, tenha orgulho da cidade, traga ainda mais pessoas e aproveite ao máximo", ressaltou a secretária de Cultura, Monique Pacheco,.

Ao lado da mãe, Célia Regina, já idosa, estava Carlos Amarildo, de 53 anos. Ele contou que esteve presente ao arraiá a pedido dela: "Ela queria muito estar aqui. Somos vizinhos do CSU Industrial e viemos prestigiar. Festa linda, que ela gostou bastante", falou. Quem também gostou foi a pequena Steffany, de 7 anos. Nos braços do pai, Rafael Lima, pulou durante todas as atrações. Perguntada se estava gostando da festa, ela apenas disse: "Muito".

Próximos arraiais

O 1º Arraiá de Contagem teve início pelas regionais Riacho, Petrolândia, Vargem das Flores, Nacional e Industrial. Os próximos serão no Eldorado (23/7), na praça da Glória; na Sede (30/7), na praça da Jabuticaba; e no Ressaca (31/7). No encerramento, o arraiá ficará sob o comando da rainha do forró, Elba Ramalho. Para este dia, será necessária retirada/troca dos ingressos acontece desde a última terça-feira (12/7), nas lojas Piticas e Container Kids, ambas no Shopping Contagem, no horário de funcionamento do local (10h às 22h). O Shopping Contagem está localizado na av. Severino Ballesteros, 850, bairro Cabral, em Contagem. Os ingressos são limitados a dois por pessoa.

Hollow Log Homes of Kenilworth have donated 132 bird & mammal nest boxes to the Woodford Folk Festival site. One of the Planting 2009 projects was to inspect , maintain and audit these nest boxes to see how they were being used.

During the weekend, one of the nest boxes containing baby sugar gliders(?) was fitted with a video camera so we could all see the babies inside. Very cute!

I found this ant nest under a log on my property. I'm not very good at identifying ants, but I'm fairly sure these guys are Tapinoma sessile, the odorous house ants.

The nest build by sparrows at my apt.

After photographing Tower Falls, I stopped at the Devils Den overlook north of Tower General Store to shoot the osprey nest on one of the canyon hoodoos. The osprey was there with her chicks. A couple that was already there watching her said she had been hunting and had just feed the chicks a fish she grabbed from the Yellowstone River far below. I got my tripod set up and started firing off shots and got this one of her taking off. She returned a few minutes later, but alas did not have any more prey for the youngsters.
