A pair of house finches are building a nest in one of the hanging baskets on the front porch. It's not too convenient for us, but these birds seem pretty happy, acting like they've moved into a five star resort ;-). The basket is sheltered from the rain and sun by the porch overhang. There are big birch trees out front where they can hang out and watch over the nest. There are several bird feeders and a couple of bird baths in the back yard. What more could a little finch want?
I had deep shadows in this shot, so decided to go for a black and white silhouette.

The Tigers Nest is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and temple complex, located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley, in Bhutan. A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup (stag tshang seng ge bsam grub) cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century. Padmasambhava is credited with introducing Buddhism to Bhutan

The adult swallows returned to the old nests a month or so ago, and I noticed some little tufts of fine feathers sticking out, though no movement. I climbed up on a stool and put my camera up high, and when I checked the photo, I saw the little beady eyes peeping over the edge of the nest..
My lovely was walking the dog recently and spotted a kingfisher going into a sand / gravel bank. Glad she was alert. At least two chicks. I'll be camping out when the weather allows and try to catch these guys in the early morning. So PUMPED to have found this nest!!!!!
Bluebirds fledged, House Sparrows moved in and built a nest, Bluebirds
evicted the house sparrows and laid eggs. When the young fledged the nest
was filled with these Choke Cherry or Black Cherry seeds. Another shot of
the double box maybe the same one as before.

These are shots of the bird nest on our front porch. This nest was built in 2008 and produced 5 little birds. In 2009, we have 4 more. According to our research, the same birds don't return to the same nest...so these may be a new family using our bird condo for the year!
This mud nest (assumed to be that of a wasp?) was about 1 cm in diameter. As of this writing (31 July 2008) it's still there... but now it's sealed up, presumably with a larva and its larder inside. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potter_wasp
