Buttonbush is a species of flowering plant in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, that is native to eastern and southern North America. Common names include Buttonbush, Common Buttonbush, Button-willow and Honey-bells. It is a is a deciduous shrub or small tree that averages 3.3 - 9.8 feet (1 - 3 m) in height, but can reach 20 feet (6 m). It is common in many wetland habitats in its range, including swamps, floodplains, mangrove, pocosin, riparian zones, and moist forest understory.Waterfowl and other birds eat the seeds. Wood Ducks utilize the plant as nest protection. Deer browse the foliage. Insects and hummingbirds take the nectar, with bees using it to make honey.

This female exhibited very unusual behavior by staying at the nest while we came in to inspect the eggs for signs of hatching. Usually they leave and watch us from a distance.

I made this chocolate flavour frosting with chocolate sprinkled nest for my mothers school class before the Easter holidays. The eggs are hand made from gum paste/flower paste.
A bird—one of the phoebes, we think—has gone and built a nest behind our front door light. This is going to make entering and leaving the house interesting: the bird freaked out and fled when we left for and returned from a walk last night.
This sequence of photos involves the unwrapping of a wasps' nest which we found in the summer.

A 23ª edição do Cine PE chegou ao fim na noite deste domingo (4), no Cinema São Luiz, e consagrou o documentário “Espero Tua (Re)Volta” como o Melhor Longa-Metragem escolhido pelo Júri Oficial do evento. O filme, de Eliza Capai, reflete, a partir do olhar de três jovens ex-secundaristas, a recente história brasileira por meio das lutas estudantis.
O documentário “Cor de Pele”, de Lívia Perini, ganhou o prêmio de Melhor Curta Nacional, enquanto que na Mostra Competitiva de Curtas Pernambucanos o vencedor foi o filme de ficção fantástica “Coleção”, que ainda abocanhou as Calungas de Prata de Melhor Direção para André Pinto e Henrique Spencer, Melhor Roteiro, Melhor Ator e Melhor Atriz.
O Júri Oficial do Cine PE foi formado pela produtora cinematográfica e cultural Mônica Silveira; a produtora, diretora de fotografia e cineasta Maria Pessôa; o diretor de animação Alisson Ricardo; o roteirista Nelson Caldas Filho; o ator, diretor, produtor cultural e professor Sérgio Fidalgo; Silvia Levy, sócia da nova produtora Alef Films; a jornalista e cineasta Vânia Lima; e o professor-associado da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro Rafael dos Santos.
O longa-metragem “Teoria do Ímpeto”, de Marcelo R. Faria e Rafael Moura, também foi um dos grandes destaques desta edição, levando para casa quatro Calungas de Prata, incluindo as de Melhor Direção, Melhor Fotografia, Melhor Ator Coadjuvante e Melhor Ator.
Neste ano, o jurados dos longa-metragens resolveram resgatar a categoria Prêmio Especial do Júri para reverenciar o documentário “Vidas Descartáveis”, de Alexandre Valenti e Alberto Graça. O prêmio foi concedido “pela relevância e urgência do tema abordado, pelo olhar sensível e a contribuição ao combate do trabalho escravo moderno no Brasil”. Por apresentarem um trabalho artístico relevante para o filmo, o júri também concedeu menção honrosa para as atrizes Izabel Santos e Rita Maia, do filme “Abraço”.
JÚRI POPULAR – Pelo segundo ano consecutivo, o público pôde eleger seus filmes favoritos nas três mostras competitivas do festival por meio de um aplicativo para smartphone. O melhor curta pernambucano foi “Mulheres de Fogo”, de Vinícius Meireles, enquanto o divertido “Tommy Brilho”, de Sávio Fernandes, foi eleito o melhor curta nacional. O melhor longa-metragem, para o Júri Popular, foi “Abraço”, do diretor Deivisson Fiuza.
PRÊMIO DA CRÍTICA – Composto por Amanda Aouad, crítica de cinema e editora do site CinePipocaCult; Roberto Cunha, apresentador do Drops de Cinema nas rádios Cidade e StereoZero; e Robledo Milani, sócio-fundador Abraccine, a crítica especializada concedeu a Calunga de Melhor Longa para “Espero Tua (Re)Volta”. O prêmio de Melhor Curta Nacional foi para “A Pedra”, de Iuli Gerbase.
PRÊMIO CANAL BRASIL DE CURTAS – Com júri formado por Ismaelino Pinto, do jornal O Liberal (PA); Clarissa Kuschnir, Revista Preview (SP); Barbara Demerov, do site AdoroCinema (SP); Vitor Búrigo, do CineVitor (SC); e Robledo Milani, do Papo de Cinema (RS), o Prêmio Canal Brasil elegeu como melhor curta a animação “Apneia”, de Carol Sakura e Walkir Fernandes. Com o objetivo de estimular a nova geração de cineastas, o Canal Brasil oferece um troféu e R$ 15 mil para o melhor filme de curta-metragem, que também é exibido em sua grade de programação.
PRÊMIO ESPECIAL DO JÚRI – A categoria foi resgatada pela comissão julgadora para reverenciar o longa-metragem “Vidas Descartáveis”, de Alexandre Valenti e Alberto Graça.
PRÊMIO CIA RIO – A CiaRio vai premiar as três produções escolhidas pelo Júri Oficial nas três mostras competitivas. Os filmes eleitos ganharão locação de equipamentos de iluminação, acessórios e maquinaria da empresa NAYMAR.
CONCURSO DE ARGUMENTO – Neste ano, a Escola de Roteirista Empreendedor (RWR) e o CTAV-SAV premiará um argumento no formato de curta-metragem com uma bolsa no valor de 50% no curso de Roteirista Empreendedor da Escola Recife Writers Room (RWR). O projeto selecionado foi “#Relacionamentos”, de Felipe Augusto Hidalgo Barros.

a fabulous little boutique on Kauai's North Shore in historic Kilauea town.
A pair of Metallic Starlings (Aplornis metallica) builds a nest just outside of Cairns. Metallic Starlings are colonial breeders and perhaps hundreds were building nests in this tree. The location is more or less a suburban park, with a ballfield and the tree. While we in America deal with the blight of the introduced European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), there are many colorful and delightful species of starlings like the Metallic Starling that are in bold contrast to the more subdued European Starling. We might think that we have been given the short stick in terms of starlings to set loose on the New World, but at least European Starlings are not colonial nesters. These Metallic Starlings, with their bright red eyes and almost liquid-looking metallic feathers are certainly a joy to watch, but the sheer mass of birds present means that the ground underneath the tree is literally crawling with parasites. In addition, the sheer noise of the colony (while a delight to visit) would not be something you might want to deal with outside your window on a daily basis. European Starlings can be quite load enough even without being colonial nesters! (Photographed just outside of Cairns, Queensland, Australia)
I couldn't see the depression when the nest was in the box.
I couldn't bear to discard it, so it's in a plastic bag, waiting to be shown to my seven year old grand-twins when they visit in a few weeks.
This was the backdrop to our campsite a couple years back over Memorial Day weekend. Heyburn State Park, North Idaho.
We found this pretty goose sitting on her nest on the other side of the park. Again, this girl was near a little waterfall. We haven't come up with a name for her as of yet. Suggestions welcome!
Addendum - we've named her Abigail!
Our local electrical utility, PGE, put this up yesterday. Hopefully an osprey will build its nest here.
The eggs are collected and re-buried in a fenced off area of the beach. A number of them had aparently hatched the morning before we arrived.
"Niditos' (little nests) and tamarinds in retail size packages. The wholesale sweets market is a few blocks away in an annex to the Merced Market, There is a vaguely similar store in the Grand Central Market in downtown LA.
