Built in 1870 but inactive from 1971 to 1993. The 35 foot tall wooden tower is mounted on a 2 story Empire style wooden keeper's house. A 6th order Fresnel lens was installed in 2013 as part of the extensive renovation carried out by the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation. Their work has restored the lighthouse to it's 1912 appearance. The first floor of the keeper's house is now a museum, and the second floor is available for overnight visits. The light signal is a white flash every 6 seconds.
The lighthouse is located on the southwest tip of Rose Island which is located in the center of Narragansett Bay and just off the Jamestown-Newport bridge. Much of Rose Island is off limits to visitors from April through August, since it is a bird sanctuary for mating and chick rearing of gulls, oyster catchers and other birds.
Masonic Temple, 411 North Hastings Avenue, Hastings, Nebraska. This huge Masonic center was constructed in 1928 and contains a 1000-seat auditorium where the Hastings Symphony Orchestra performs.
The most fun I've had in ages!! This is a view of unpaved roadway. The paved roads are a driver's dream, esp up here.

Mui Ne is one of the quieter destinations along the backpacker trail in Vietnam and no less beautiful, or polluted. The beach is lined with all kinds of plastic bottles, wrappers, styrofoam, pop cans etc. Only a few months before I arrived (April 2008) did they install garbage cans behind restaurants and resorts along the beach. Hmmm...I wonder where it was being dumped before that and if the receptacles will only shorten the time it takes to get to its final dumping ground?
