Modeled after the Nerf Maverick revolver. The barrel and the slide move. No it's not spring-loaded and no, it doesn't shoot.
I rigged a NERF Vulcan/Havok Fire EBF-25 up so that its firing could be controlled by computer, then used the motion detecting software 'motion' for linux to have the gun fire when it detects the door opening.
The gun itself has three chained ammo belts, for a total of 74 shots, and a 12.6V lipo battery instead of the 9V D-cell battery pack it would use stock. The firing mechanism is an Arduino driving a servo connected to some pencils to pull the trigger, and there's a Logitech C300 webcam on the gun to source video. The laptop itself also plays sound files from Portal turrets when motion is detected or stops being detected. Check out www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrWUhVeEcHk for video!

Two Nerf Vulcan EBF-25s, flanking my Longshot for size comparison. The Vulcans carry 25 round belts, and can fire three darts a second.

The nerf gun is opened up. This picture is taken in case I forget how to put it back together again.
The rack has storage for most types of Nerf guns, from pistols to rifles. It can easily be extended with longer cross-beams to hold more weaponry.
I chose fence pales instead of the timber I originally wanted because it was cheaper and and with decorations on the top that add a nice effect. I saved myself $20 by building it this way and it actually worked out better.
I did this for a man in my neighborhood celebrating his 40th... His favorite things to do were to play nerf guns with his kids, and practice jujitsu.

For this I used my new studio lights. Shoot-thru umbrella w/ strobe at 1/2 power on left. Softbox w/ strobe on full power on right.
These toy guns are great fun! I can't wait to try this same paint scheme on my Remington 887!

A Nerf Maverick that I disassembled and painted. It has a basecoat of primer, then masked and painted, and weathered. It's finished with a thorough coat of polyurethane to resist scratching.
Had a little Nerf fun with the kids today, using siumple targets made from LEGo that you can make yourself. Check it out on Youtube -

WHELP! Turns out the Long Strike is a pretty shitty Nerf gun, so I'm gonna mess with it! I originally wanted to see if I could some how make like a pump action but then I realized it wouldn't work, so I figure I'll just try to make it look like a plain old Rifle instead of trying to pass it off as a Sniper of some kind.
As you can see, I've already got a new Barrel Extension made form some crap PVC Pipe we had laying around, it's only 7" long compared to the original's 12 inches. I plan on building up a bit right below the barrel, otherwise it' just needs the front part of the iron sights.
I'm also gonna be cutting off the flaps that hold the extra clips on the stock, I'll have to flesh out the stock a bit once I do but that should be easy.
Then comes paint and me trying to find a 12 or 18 size Clip and playing down the fact I bought a crap nerf gun xD
While I thought my eyeballs would explode or my camera's sensor would break from these wild, day-glo colors, I was amused by the "Nerf-punk" theme.
I'm of the opinion that *sometimes* the Steampunk crowd takes their costumes waaaayyy too seriously and need to lighten up a bit. This was the perfect response to that. :-D
