Animation is my passion, so when BrickNerd announced that this would be the theme for this year's Nerdvember contest, I was thrilled! So I decided to make a tribute to one of the biggest icons in animation: PIXAR! But instead of simply building Nerdly as a Pixar character, I decided to go with something more unconventional: an animated recreation of the iconic Pixar logo animation - BrickNerd style! I took a digital stop motion approach to the animation process by building each frame in Bricklink Studio and rendering it. It took 141 unique frames and about a day of rendering to complete. I built 16 versions of Nerdly with different poses and expressions to bring BrickNerd's mascot to life. You can also find the video on YouTube where you can watch it at a slower speed or even frame by frame to see how I used these different builds to make them move: youtu.be/1t7l315okOo

Creating the illusion of movement with a static object

A bust of one of the iconic T-800 Endoskeletons as seen in the opening scene of Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Built to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie and its tie-in comics as part of the Nerdvember 2021 challenge on Bricknerd. Designed in the same style as official LEGO event exclusive character busts and equipped with two light bricks to light up the eyes with the press of a button on each side of the skull, this detailed display piece is designed to look authentic and make every LEGO and Terminator fan go: "I want that!"

These Nerd pairs are competing to see who can harvest the most nerdy facts in Nerd canisters to power Nerd City.

Built for BrickNerd's Nerdvember contest, with a prompt of Animation. A rather last minute build, but still a fun experiment with different shapes for Nerdly's glasses and trying to capture the characters from Monsters Inc in the most minimal form.

... and on his farm he had a turkey,

However, Nerdly the Turkey (or is it Turdly the Nerkey?) did not feel ready to become the centerpiece of the festivities associated with Thanksgiving, the fourth thursday of Nerdvember.

So he took flight and left the premises, leaving a hungry, very annoyed farmer behind

Nerdly is a true survivor!.

Ah Houston we've had a problem. We've had a Main B Brick Undervolt.

Built for BrickNerd's Nerdvember's Survivor edition contest. Go with the most amazing survival story on or off this planet, Apollo 13! Had a hard time thinking this one up, it may have come to me just before Ken Mattingly died earlier this month (he was prime crew for 13 until bumped for measles's exposure). But his death may have been part of the inspiration, memory is fuzzy, Then when Frank Borman passed a few days later definitely solidified the choice.

Camouflage is a vital survival tool whether you live in the jungle, desert, or even the big city. Here our beloved Nerdly has disappeared into the background, perhaps hoping to scope out what might be in the LEGO bags.

Ok so 13 didn't land but I couldn't resist putting my Nerdly LEM on a crater baseplate!

I wanted to do a unique take on BrickNerd's survivor theme for Nerdvember, so I made this set of Nerdly themed nesting dolls. When the outermost Nerdly is destroyed (by anything from small children to being hit by a deer), the inner Nerdlies still survive!

This build uses all parts in existing colors and is structurally sound. The studs on the second smallest Nerdly are red police hats and on the second largest use part 98585.
