Here is the tracker control system in its deployment configuration – the card is the same size as an Arduino Uno . Socket at left holds the Arduino Pro Mini clone (ATmega328 5V 16Mhz). Socket at right holds the A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Carrier. Single 2-pole screw terminal block, right front, connects to the HOME sensor switch. The pair of 2-pole screw terminal blocks, right rear, connect to the four leads of the stepper motor.
The 6-pin right-angle header on the nearside of the Arduino Pro Mini clone can be connected to a USB-to-Serial converter, but is only used to download programs from a PC onto the Arduino.
Note the 9 VDC battery cap. I intend to power this system from an external power tank, because I plan to add a current hungry, FET-driven, anti-dew heater controller to the empty real estate on the board. However, for the time being, what with the stepper motor being powered at a 0.8% duty cycle, I actually think I can run the tracker for several hours on a standard 9V battery.

This is my friend Hailey that was nice enough to sit for some photos after she brought me a doughnut that I promised to buy for ten dollars. The high price made the doughnut that much tastier. This photo is high-key and I changed the original image to black and white and used curves, levels, exposure, and contrast to bring out the light tones in this photo.
I don't think Hailey was necessarily planning for me to catch this look on her face. However, I think it looks kind of fun. Despite the title, I don't think the picture looks as nerdy as it does playful. I like how the dominant high-key value plays into the playful or silly look on her face.

On Thursday, March 1st, the first Nerd Night was held in One Wheelock.
Nerd Nights provides graduate students the opportunity to showcase their research to other students in a relaxed, respectful, and informal environment.
The event was organized and moderated by Julia Bradley-Cook, the GSC's Academic Chair.
Thanks, Julia!
I didn't like the shot because that sign reflected the flash from my camera. I cropped it, but that's how the actual picture looks like.
This is a nice set of nerds that were at Tim Hortons today. As you can see, there's the skinny guy, the glasses guy, and the older looking ponytail guy.
Nerds at play. The type of dance I do involves couples dancing in pairs, weaving down a dance hall in long lines. It's kind of like you see in the Jane Austen movies, with musicians and a caller who calls out a set of predictable figures for you to dance. We tried dancing this dance last night that had some weird progressions and some funky end effects. The boys painstakingly recreated the dance with Splenda packets and breath mints. After about an hour of moving the Splenda packets through the steps, they finally figured out what they wanted to figure out. How very satisfying!
