My podcast this week at makezine.com/podcast, is all about making DIY nerd ornaments.

on my car - sad when a sticker falls apart...

Today was an awesome day. I got to hung out with some awesome friends and we started a sewing project!

See, I'm a huge video game nerd, always have been. I never used to admit it because back in the day it was uncool to be a nerd, and yes, I cosplayed.

Since its been ten years since I last made a pleated skirt my friend and I decided that we should do practice skirts before making the actual skirts for our cosplay. If things work out, I'll be doing a cosplay as Yukiko from Persona 4 for PAX East. :)

This is the practice skirt, well, partly done at least, with Yukiko's fan.

Calvo and I were playing with a vimeo clip.. here we are two nerds with our computers..

Who says just because you're a nerd on the inside means your a nerd on the outside.Just because you are smarter than others doesn't mean your part of the outcast.

Just for the record just judging by my audition I would have never thought I would make it to the top 4!!!

"The Nerd"

A comedy by Larry Shue

Live on stage at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron, Ohio, from April 28 to May 15, 2011

Directed by Rohn Thomas

What would you do if someone you’re supposed to admire shows up suddenly at your birthday party and then refuses to leave? That’s the central premise of "The Nerd," a hilarious, hijink-packed comedy.

Set in Terre Haute, Indiana, in late 1981, "The Nerd" introduces us to the hysterical dilemma of a young architect named Willum Cubbert, a long-suffering yet straight-shooting man. We learn that Willum was a soldier in Vietnam before he became a successful architect, and he feels deeply indebted to a mysterious stranger named Rick Steadman. After being seriously wounded in battle, Rick saved Willum’s life. And because he was unconscious during this daring rescue, Willum has never really met Rick. Consequently, Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment in Terre Haute on the night of his 34th birthday party. However, Rick’s uncouth manner and his inappropriate behavior threaten to throw the happy occasion into serious shambles. It turns out that Rick is a stupid "nerd" who overstays his welcome with a vengeance. Have you ever heard the saying that “fish and houseguests stink after three days?” "The Nerd" pays humorous homage to that clever maxim!

Last picture with the Blackberry for a while. It was 10:00pm and I was desperate, because I hadn't taken a shot all day. (That makes me sound like an alcoholic.)

Amelia and I were talking about parenting. It's hard for me, coming in when The Kid is 12, and not understanding all the hard work and efforts that's been going on the first 11.5 years before I met him. I'm trying to jump in, but we just have a lot of different beliefs. One thing that we defnitely agree on is how awesome of a kid he is on the inside. He has a heart of gold and the sweetest soul I've ever encountered on a kid his age.

And it's especially hard to talk about parenting issues when he's in the room with us, hence the instant messaging. Nerds.

my nerds love

You are what you eat

Retro sweets.

I used to love these when I was younger. They're no longer available in the UK, but still sold in America, so I bought some off eBay recently. Tasty, tasty. They still have the ability to make my face contort in ways never before thought possible.

Nerds gonna nerd

No doubt the ninja is saying what some of you are thinking.

My first Nerd Nite in Duluth. Topics included "Game of Thrones", "Raspberry Pi" and "Authurian women who kicked ass". Nerdy indeed!

My name is Lindsey. I am sixteen years old and a sophomore in high school. I love to learn new things but I absolutely hate studying. I would much rather learn from experiences than read out of a textbook. I value my relationship with God above everything. I come from a family a five, and my family means the world to me. I do my best to live each and every day to the fullest. I am a very optimistic person, I always try to focus on the positives rather than dwell on the negative. I am very passionate about fashion and I love to shop. I am very friendly and I love making new friends.

I love taking pictures from different points of view. I think it is very interesting to be able to look at something in a new way. Experimenting with different points of view also helps to keep photos from looking boring. I try to capture things in a new way so that my photos are more thought-provoking and my viewers are more greatly drawn to them. I love to think outside the box. I also really enjoy taking macro shots. Getting close and personal with something really helps me to get a better understanding of the object, and to experience the object in a new light. I also love to experiment with the settings on my camera. I love to discover new things about my camera to help improve my picture taking abilities and create more interesting photos.

My self-portrait shows my love for fashion. I am crazy obsessed with clothes, shoes, and jewelry. The black heel in my hand helps illustrate my love of heels, and my outfit was chosen to show my obsession with cute clothes and accessories. I also chose to wear makeup and do my hair for this portrait to give an image of what society believes it takes to be pretty in the fashion world. I chose direct lighting and a white background to help keep the main focus of the photo on me and what I am wearing rather than the background. My alter ego picture shows me as a stereotypical nerd. I chose to put big, geeky, black glasses on because our society seems to associate people with glasses as being smart. Then I chose to wear a flannel shirt, a plaid skirt and knee high socks to complete the whole look. Lastly, I chose to carry a handful of books to finish off the “bookworm” look because society seems to assume that all smart people do is study. This is what I consider to be my alter ego because I absolutely hate studying. I have also never been a fan of books or reading. Once again, I chose direct lighting and a white background to help keep the main focus of the photo on me and what I am wearing rather than having the distraction of a cluttered backround.

This is my nerd shot. My home office with everything I need to feel productive and creative. If you're familiar with tech gear you may have noticed: Epson professional flatbed scanner, Epson 13x19 photo printer, Neat document scanner, portable inkjet printer, 12 channel audio mixer, Pentax MX-1 camera, 27inch iMac, Tannoy studio speakers, Denon DJ turntable, and the world's cheapest electric guitar.
