I've always really liked this angel at the local cemetery, she is really quite tricky to photo. She is usually holding some flowers. This is probably my best effort so far.

The historical buildings of New Alexandria now lay in ruins, much like everything else in the aftermath of the apocalypse. Once grand structures that stood as testaments to the city's rich history and culture, they now serve as haunting reminders of a time long gone. The once ornate facades and towering spires now lay shattered and crumbled, their former beauty replaced by a sense of desolation and decay. No longer do they house bustling crowds or echo with the sounds of vibrant life. Instead, they are home only to the eerie silence of a world forever changed.

Necropolis was once a thriving metropolis named New Alexandria, situated on the banks of a great river that flowed through the heart of the city. It was known for its vibrant culture, bustling markets, and thriving industries. The Stygian Span, a massive bridge that spanned the river, was the pride of the city. Previously known as The Apex Archway, it was a marvel of engineering, with towering pillars that reached towards the sky and a sweeping arch that spanned the river below.

Yesterday I traveled to Carmona, a beautiful Sevillian town, large, beautiful, historic. No one is able to date its foundation: Tartessian, Iberian, Roman. We stop in Roman because later I will continue with the Arab and Christian saga. Well this is what we see when entering the Roman necropolis, very well cared for and valued. But when I saw these wild ears I had no choice but to think that they were very well fed, for centuries.

Like all classical Roman cities, Dara had the necropolis built just outside the city walls, close enough that they could be easily visited by family but far enough that they didn't get in the way of the defense. By late Roman times Christianity was undermining the strict division between the city of the living and that of the dead (the literal meaning of necropolis) but only privileged Christians received burial in the churchyard. Like other near eastern cities, Dara's necropolis is carved into the nearest cliffside. You can see similar examples in Urfa, Seleucia, Petra, and of course the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.
If you have your own transport you can get here while the place is empty. The big tour busses show up around noon, at which point the little village becomes crowded.

This is the large necropolis in Stamford, it's a wonderful place in most seasons. Autumn is of course the season of mists and red leaves.
