Randoalleycat / Randoällärit
"Inspired by randonneuring, alleycats and Mike Hall's Valleycats and the Transcontinental race, we’ll be riding for 24 hours, navigating between checkpoints spread around the region. The locations will be published before the event, so that riders can plan their route. You don’t have to ride all of the checkpoints, pick the ones you want. Or try to ride all of them, it might be possible. But that does mean several hundred kilometres of riding. You can ride through the night, sleep wherever you like, or come back to the cottage where the start and finish is located, it’s open."

After having a wander over the OS map, the caterpillar fell off into the heather. Luckily though it landed on the stem of this plant so I was able to get a few more shots of it in a more natural backdrop.
2019-03-06 MIKYOUNG KIM 2019 Douglas C. Allen Lecture Georgia Tech School of Architecture
Join us Wednesday, March 6 at 6PM in the Reinsch-Pierce Family Auditorium as Mikyoung Kim presents, "Navigating the Art & Science of the Landscape." Kim will share the work of the Mikyoung Kim Design firm and their research and development of landscapes that focus on environmental and physiological health and well being in the public realm. She will discuss the scientific research that shapes their interest in human centered design and the way that pressing hydrological issues that face our cities have become a foundational issue in all their work.
This annual lecture on landscape architecture was established and endowed by alumni, faculty and friends in honor of Professor Douglas C. Allen (1947-2014) in appreciation for his long-time dedication to the College of Design (formerly the College of Architecture) as a teacher, colleague and leader.
About Mikyoung Kim
Mikyoung Kim is an international landscape architect and urban designer and founding principal of Mikyoung Kim Design in Boston, MA. This year, her firm has been awarded the prestigious Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum National Design Award and the American Society of Landscape Architects National Design Medal.
The design critic Sarah Goldhagen writes, “Mikyoung shows that landscape design and environmental art can be a public amenity, a social condenser, and a sustainable practice…” Goldhagen affirms, her work does so “while simultaneously being a poetic art that captures and … instigates deep imaginative thought about the many ways that every day landscapes can enrich people’s individual experience and social congress.” With a uniquely holistic approach, her firm’s exceptional body of work has redefined the discipline of landscape architecture, inhabiting the intersection of art and science.
From the art of ecology and restorative landscapes, Mikyoung Kim Design’s work addresses the most pressing environmental and health-related issues, while creating innovative and immersive human experiences. The work of her firm has been highlighted in numerous publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, the Guardian Newspaper, National Geographic, Dwell Magazine, and the Chicago Tribune. Mikyoung was named as an AD innovator by Architectural Digest and her firm has received numerous national awards from the ASLA, the American Architecture Prize, the AIA and the GSA. Her life’s work is featured in the Smithsonian Museum American Voices Collection.

Transparency is a new solo theatre show that takes a deep dive into the everyday life of a transgender male through the relatable, funny and brutally honest lens of a northern working class family.
Whilst Jack navigates the hurdles of transition, the old family dynamics are shaken up. Meanwhile he's asking what it is to be a man in this society, and what kind of man he will be.
Written and performed by Jaden Adams (he/him), Transparency carries us through the uncomfortable, sobering and intriguing journey of a fully human transgender life. The five characters offer different perspectives, breaking down barriers to dialogue and making space for many of the questions that can be difficult to ask.
Jaden Adams is a trans-male actor who grew up in Oldham. He brings you this grounded, real, yet radically expressive performance - one an audience won’t forget. Transparency is supported by a team including Olwen May, Mary Cooper and Francesca Murray-Fuentes.
A quick tour through the Black Forest, starting in Bad Herrenalb, going through Freudenstadt, Wolfach, Oppenau, visiting the Allerheiligen Waterfalls and driving the "Schwarzwaldhochstrasse" back to Bad Herrenalb. All together about 350km/210mls.
I really like to navigate the "old fashioned" way. GPS sucks, it's way more fun to use maps, it's just more interesting that way...
