Field trip to a beach in Tiverton, RI. I took most of my images with b+w film, but these last few I had time for with my old digital before I it was time to go home..

A stream meanders through portions of the Manchester Cedar Swamp preserve. The New Hampshire preserve is managed by The Nature Conservancy.
The Nature Conservancy usually protects some of the coolest places in states. Some do a great job of maintaining trails and encouraging visitation. Other states fall short. New Hampshire is one of the really good ones.

I did see a few patches of Paintbrush here and there on the trail up to McCall Point. Here a small patch grew amongst a much bigger patch of Balsamroot.

Instead of heading west to the Rockies, we decided to check out Horseshoe Canyon Conservancy area for a little hike. Descending into the canyon, we did a tiny bit of elevation, and the landforms were wonderful. Recommended for an interesting short walk.
Well, not a new knee really, but a lot of fixing up of the old one :-) So I'm off for my knee surgery tomorrow! In an abstract sense I'm very glad that I've got the chance to fix the torn cartilege and remove the damaged nerves in my knee, but I'm also extremely nervous about the surgery - I'm scared of needles and IVs, and I'm not looking forward to having my knee so weak and sore again. But it's some short term pain in exchange for a long term gain so it's worth it!
I took this photo in the Weld Sanctuary yesterday - a father walking with his three little sons who were making amazing progress down quite a long path.
Not the best stitch, but I still like it!

A late start on today's adventure turned out to be a better than I thought. This is a late day view of the pond at Green Swamp nature preserve in Brunswick County, NC. If I had arrived any earlier, the light would have been too harsh plus the clouds were late comers to the party. PS: that's my shadow in the lower right corner.

The entire hilltop of McCall Point looked like this. One big open meadow chock full of Balsamroot, Lupine, and other wildflowers. I could have sat up there all day.

One of several possible species of tree-like Cholla growing in the high desert in southwestern New Mexico. The deceptively "fuzzy" look is due to the spines, which are actually hard, woody, very sharp, and barbed. The morning sunlight reflecting off the spines prompted me to do a blank-and-white conversion for an "artsy" look.
