These are yellow pitcher plants(Sarracenia flava). Typically this time of year the pitchers are brown and worn looking. However, this savanna was burned weeks earlier initiating a flush of new pitchers(leaves). The yellow pitcher plant is a carnivorous plant that dot the landscape of the savanna.
A cow and her yearling calf graze on the Nature Conservancy's Tallgrass Prairie near Pawhuska, OK. The day was overcast and hazy, but every day on the prairie has its beauty.

This is the end of the trail on the Nature Conservancy side, and the point where we turned back. Back in the day, there was a bed-and-breakfast here, catering to the rich and famous of Santa Barbara, just across the strait.

When I visited the Green Swamp in early May, the leaves on all the Venus Flytrap plants (Dionaea muscipula) were young and fresh. If you look carefully, you can see trigger hairs on the inner surfaces of the traps. (These are far less obvious than the "fingers" along the margins of the leaves.) When an insect walks into the trap and bumps into a trigger hair, the trap closes.
