The trail out of the swamp was lush with tall, soft grasses. Yes, that grassy sunshine part is the trail!
This past weekend I met up with some other photographer friends to explore Green Swamp for wildflowers and fall colors.

I did see a few patches of Paintbrush here and there on the trail up to McCall Point. Here a small patch grew amongst a much bigger patch of Balsamroot.

Instead of heading west to the Rockies, we decided to check out Horseshoe Canyon Conservancy area for a little hike. Descending into the canyon, we did a tiny bit of elevation, and the landforms were wonderful. Recommended for an interesting short walk.

Osage County is home to the Osage Nation, and is also home to the Nature Conservancy's 40,000-acre Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, the largest remaining original tract of tall grass prairie in North America.

This rattlesnake (diamondback or mojave, uncertain) was found at the Independence Creek Preserve (Texas Nature Conservancy) near Sheffield, Texas. it was probably about four foot long, pretty docile. Definitely preferred going about his business to striking.
