Stevens Creek Heritage Preserve; McCormick County, SC
This plant is also known as Lanceleaf Wakerobin. It is a small trillium with a maroon blossom. It is found only in six southeastern states (TN, MS, AL, GA, SC, and FL). It is endangered in Florida and Tennessee. In South Carolina, the Nature Conservancy considers it an S1, which means that it is critically imperiled state-wide because of extreme rarity or because of some factor(s) making it especially vulnerable to extirpation. "Cranesville Swamp is a boreal peat bog relic left behind from the Pleistocene Epoch. The swamp formed 15,000 years ago during the last Ice Age, when glaciers inched close but never reached Maryland. Nestled in a mountain valley bowl known as a frost pocket, colder conditions still prevail enough for plants to whisper of the past. This coffee mug always makes me laugh. Someone at the Nature Conservancy has a good sense of humor. Even my little Goldfinch is trying to figure out why my coffee mug is screaming! Haha!

Beautiful Autumn day in Michigan. Went to the Nature Conservancy's Nan Weston Nature Preserve at Sharon Hollow. It is a beautiful place to enjoy nature in Washtenaw County. I had never been there before. We saw a Pileated Woodpecker - but did not get a picture. Very cool! Get that next time.
Every time I go to Lower Table Rock, I come upon a cool new view or new plant/animal species. Awesome place.
