The American rubyspot (Hetaerina americana) is a damselfly of the family Calopterygidae. Males have a lustrous red head and thorax. The abdomen of both genders is brilliant green. The female may have either green or copper colored marks on the thorax.
I was lucky to have found some that were willing to perch in place for photos.

For some reason, the sulphur butterflies seem to perch only with the wings closed up. It makes trying to get a shot of the beautiful upper wing patterns nearly impossible. I have resorted to trying to catch them in flight. Almost got one of this pair in flight for one shot. Orange sulphurs that seem to be in a courting ritual. In Montell, Uvalde County, Texas during April 2019.
On a very hot Texas summer day, this male vermilion flycatcher took advantage of my need to water the garden by sitting in the spray and getting a good shower. He danced away to be sure all his feathers got a good soaking. Montell, Uvalde County, Texas.
Tiny little bird, identified by the pale colored eye and it's unique call. They move quickly in and out of leaves and I feel fortunate to get several decent shots of them. In Montell, Uvalde County, Texas.
The birds were pairing up for the pending breeding season. This couple was perched nicely together near the birdbath in my yard. The male is particularly bright red.

The northern cardinal juveniles in my yard were going through some interesting plumage transitions. Also, the youngest of this species have a dark bill compared to the bright orange of an adult bird. Montell, Uvalde County, Texas in August 2021
Je dois l'avouer, il y a de ces jours où j'aimerais 100mm de plus...Pour ces petits bijoux de passage et loin-loin :-)
The largest of the three kingfisher species that are native to Texas. This ringed kingfisher resides on our property in Montell, Uvalde County, Texas and has proven to be pretty elusive to me and my camera but finally decided to pose for a couple of portraits.

This chipping sparrow was looking very sharp in summer/breeding plumage. They are small sparrows with a distinctive call that reminds me of an electric sewing machine. Bright rufous crown, pale gray face and breast, black eye-line, brown and gray streaked back and wings help ID the bird. We get lots of them during migration and some stay through the year.

I believe this is an eastern wood pewee. One of the little flycatcher species that is difficult to identify with confidence. In Montell, Uvalde County, Texas.
This is another one from that walk where I nearly didn't take the camera, ok I'm never leaving my camera behind again, although to be honest its rare that it is not stuck to my face these days ;-)
So it's gorgeous green Thursday, and I have a green picture yay :-)
HGGT and thank you all for your comments and favs.

The green jays have been much more willing to come into my yard and pose for photos while browsing the variety of goodies in the bird feeders. I have found they love peanuts, peanut butter and grape jelly. It's amazing to me that such a brightly colored bird can blend in to the surrounding foliage so well. The subtle variations in green shades, along with yellow match leaves, while the blue and blue markings on the head seem to help hide against sky and shadows.

The rain gave plenty of opportunity to get shots of wet foliage. Things always look so clean and sparkly right after a rain.

I love these tiny, energetic birds. We have lots of gnats in Texas and these birds do their part to keep the population under control. They move fast and it's difficult to get one in focus before it moves on. Love the challenge. Blue-gray gnatcatcher in Montell, Uvalde County, Texas.
Female black-chinned hummingbird taking a rest on a bare limb. During September 2018 in Montell, Uvalde County, Texas.
A very small and colorful damselfly species. The female is the one with the red and the male appears dark from above with a bright blue band near the end of the tail. He also has a brilliant greenish blue color on the sides of the thorax. These were seen at a private pond near Rockport, Aransas County, Texas in June 2020
The underside of the wings show a flashy yellow pattern of spots with a hint of blue at the base of the wing. Button bush blooms are great for attracting butterflies.

Phew, it was tough but we made it! We moved and we're pretty happy with our new chill life :). The dogs still need some adjustment, but we're getting there.
This one is a male, indicated by the blue color. Females are green with black markings. This one perched in several different places near the small pool of standing water that is not really a pond but a spring-fed puddle near the Nueces river.

This Nashville warbler was busy catching insects that were flying around the century plant blooms. I managed to get a quick shot of it in flight

I'm not sure why this dragonfly got the name widow skimmer but it is a beautiful insect. This one kept perching on top of this twig sticking up out of the water so I was able to reposition myself for shots from different angles.
