These are the two "Island class" vessels now serving the Nanaimo to Gabriola Island route. BC Ferries now has six of these identical vessels with two on the Campbell River - Quadra Island route, and one each at Powell River - Texada Island, and Port McNeill to Alert Bay & Sointula (northern part of Vancouver Island). These vessels are the newest in the BCF fleet.

Unless you're looking for white water there are usually some September days perfect for kayaking. This one, for example. Paradise, or what?

 

At the extreme left, barely visible on the horizon, are the rocks at Neck Point on which a couple of turkey vultures posed for a picture as I drifted by.

Different tide: very low.

 

The sea creatures who live on the pilings were exposed to the air during the brief time the tide was at its lowest. You wouldn't believe the difference between a sea anemone under water and the same creature hanging onto a piling above the water. C'mon - I'll show you.

When cyclists die and go to heaven they find thousands of miles of trails like this girdling heaven at the equator and never visited by bears. (Bears have their own heaven where the cyclists are slow and meaty).
