I know the blocks have been done over and over again - but I found this way worked nicely for a longer name.

Former US Navy serial 141022. Accepted by the US Navy on 4 May 1956 and served at a number of naval stations, including North Island, Alameda, Glenview, New Orleans, Washington and Bermuda before retirement to AMARC on 14 February 1981. It was sold to ARM in January 2012 and flew out of DM on August 10, 2016.

I saw this bull elk walk across the logging road and up this creek. I watched it and noticed this tall waterfall through the jungle. I struggled up the creek, over log jams and steep banks and couldn't get to the tall one,but this was just below it.

Walland Marsh is a part of Romney Marsh, mostly in Kent with part in East Sussex. The name means wall-land: its north-eastern border, separating it from the rest of Romney Marsh, is the Rhee Wall.[1]

The Rhee Wall is 7.5 miles long and runs from Appledore, through Brenzett and Old Romney to New Romney; it consists of two parallel earth banks, from 50 to 100 metres apart, the ground between being raised above the marsh on either side. It was built in the 13th century, as a watercourse to wash away silt from the harbour at New Romney. The plan eventually failed; the Rhee Wall has not contained water since medieval times.

Walland Marsh is bordered in the south-east by Lydd (beyond which is Denge Marsh) and in the south-west by Rye. The villages of Fairfield, Brookland and East Guldeford are within the region.

The marsh was turned into productive farm land in past centuries. The land of Walland Marsh was reclaimed mostly from the 13th to 15th century, later than that of Romney Marsh to the north-east. The reclamation was done in stages by creating innings: an embankment was built round an area of marsh, which would drain at low tide.

To retain the productive land, drainage channels, known locally as sewers, were created. A notable example is White Kemp Sewer, which runs across the centre of the marsh, and flows into Jury's Gap Sewer; this leads to the coast at Jury's Gap, near Camber Sands.

“The name Føroyar (Faroe Islands) is derived from old Norse word "Færeyjar" and means "Sheep

Islands", a name given by the Norse people that settled these rough and wind-swept isles during the Viking Age.

You can find sheep everywhere on the islands, but usually they are very shy and run away, so I was very lucky to be able to capture this picture.

The rock in the background is called "Trøllkonufingur", which means "the Troll woman’s finger", a 313 meter tall monolith. Legend has it that Trøllkonufingur is the finger of a witch that came to throw the Faroe Islands to Iceland. When she reached the sea the sun rose, she was turned into stone and fell into the ocean.”

Thanks! :)

EDIT*: the most important thing in the name I'm searching for is the sound of the name - it can really be any word, even totally made up!

The scientific name of Great Crested Grebe is Podiceps cristatus, which translates literally as Crested Arsefoot. The bird was known as Arsefoot in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries before arse was considered vulgar. And I was pleased with this photograph because the water was still and clear enough to see why the name came about. You can see the legs emanating from the arse region as opposed to most other waterbirds (Ducks, Geese, Swans Coots etc) where the legs emanate from the middle of the belly. The grebe system (also used by Loons/Divers) is wonderful when in the water but really clumsy when the birds are on land.

Great Crested Grebes are now common and widespread birds with about 4,600 pairs. But this was not always the case. The Victorian fashion for using their underbody feathers (known as grebe fur) for muffs and hats led to them being driven to near extinction in Britain. At their lowest point in the late Nineteenth Century the entire British population was thought to be fewer than thirty pairs.

I photographed this one having a shake at Ingbirchworth Reservoir in South Yorkshire.

According to local legend, Helfštýn is named after the robber Helfried of Linva, who founded it. The castle was probably built in the last quarter of the 13th century. Around 1320 Vok of Kravař, a member of a prominent Moravian noble family, became the owner of the castle. Helfštýn remained in the possession of the Kravař family for more than a hundred years and underwent far-reaching structural changes during this period. Construction work began on a larger scale in the first half of the 14th century, but the main reconstruction of the castle into a Gothic fortress did not take place until the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. The Kravařs mainly improved the fortifications of Helfštýn. They replaced the makeshift fortification of the old parkland with a thick stone wall with four bastions, built a prismatic tower over the entrance to the castle itself and secured it with a drawbridge, built a fortified forecourt on the south side and cut the ridge of the hill with a moat carved into the rock.

The era of the Pernštejn family

In 1474, William of Pernštejn took over the castle estate and proceeded to its further reconstruction. In the last quarter of the 15th century,

Helfštýn Castle was enlarged with a thoroughly fortified, extensive farm forecourt (completed in 1480) and another forecourt, which formed a new outpost defending the entire enlarged building. At the same time, the fortifications of the old Kravaře castle were improved with bastions and a new system of towers and gates. The castle's ground plan was definitively given an elongated shape, and in its external form the perfect fortification system significantly overlapped all the other architectural elements.

Renaissance reconstruction

At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, the inner core of the castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance residence. The old castle palace was demolished, along with part of its original Gothic fortifications, and a magnificent Renaissance palace was built on the vacant space, in sharp contrast to the extensive system of late Gothic fortifications that surrounded it.

The destruction of the castle

In 1656, quite extensive demolition work was carried out, which, although it did not damage the fortifications of Helfštýn too much, definitively deprived it of the character of a manor house. And thus began the long-term destruction of the castle. The destruction was accelerated in the second half of the 18th century by the Ditrichstein family with demolition works. These attempts culminated in 1817, when part of the inner castle was destroyed by artillery fire.

Present day

The present-day character of the castle is that of a fortress with six gates and a series of 18th-century buildings and ramparts. Since the 19th century, the castle has been presented as a tourist and heritage site. Nowadays it has become a natural cultural centre of the region, with various cultural events taking place here throughout the season

For the "Culturally Curious/Cognizant" this overhead bridge shot was featured briefly in the Japanese anime, "Your Name". To sums it up, the movie is set in Tokyo and Takayama, but features locations from around Japan. In the movie, Taki and his group travel the country to look for Mitsuha, with their first stop being in Hida. It's a very short scene, but the station has solidified itself as a mecca for fans of the movie.

Hans Schabus collected for some years all things with Hans (Hans = John Johnny - and was a very common name - and it is also the name of my father): Hans in Luck, Johnny Head-in-the-Air, plastic budgie (Hansi is a common name for lovebirds), Junghans clock, Hans beer bottle, Hansel und Gretel,....

Also laß ich hier Hansi Niese singen: "Was brauchen wir an Alkohol"

Because it is a song about a name, and because the first link is to an actress and female singer with the mostly male related name Hansi, now the contrary: Johnny (Hansi) Cash sings about a boy with a girl`s name: "A Boy Named Sue"

One common name for this spider is "Writing Spider", and it's easy to see why. This one is a juvenile with a mess of "writing", but even when they're adults, you'll find a line of zigzag down the middle. You can see from this shot to the next that different genera of spiders create different forms of stabilimenta in their webs. This one reflects UV light, and that leads to theories that the purpose is to attract prey. Many flowers have markings visible only in the ultraviolet spectrum which act as "runway signals" for insects, to guide them in for pollination. The theory goes that perhaps these act in a similar way, fooling insects into thinking this is an attractive flower.

Another theory suggests that, rather than attracting prey, the stabilimentum is there to disguise the spider and protect it from predators, or make it look larger than it is and dissuade them that way. I have to say, looking at this one, the spacing of the zigzag and that of the rings on the spider's legs certainly lend to the spider disappearing into the pattern.

What does Ku Vastei mean? Read below

By Lights-the-Way, Mystic of the Mages Guild

It is hard to describe the culture of my people. Often my tongue stumbles as I try to explain, but it is my hope that ink and quill will give me time enough to gather my thoughts. And perhaps, though such writing, I will finally connect the parts of me that now feel so divided; my homeland of Murkmire and my new life within the Mages Guild.

These journals are to become my ku-vastei. And, as I write that, I can think of no better topic to begin with.

Ku-vastei roughly translates to "the catalyst of needed change," though such a direct translation in no way does justice to the original meaning. Another translation could be "that which creates the needed pathway for change to occur" or even "the spark which ignites the flame which must come into being."

Perhaps a more direct analysis should be first presented. Ku-vastei is a noun, a thing or person. Vastei directly translates to change, an important part of my culture. Ku is harder to speak of. It is that which leads to change, though not that which creates change. An important role, as stagnation is a fate worse than death.

Take a boulder which sits atop a cliff, teetering in place. It must fall eventually. The ku-vastei does not push the boulder off the cliff; rather, it picks the pebble which holds the rock in place. And so it falls, not by a push, but by a pathway cleared.

Ku-vastei is revered, just as change itself is revered, for to look back at what was means to stumble as you move forward. Sometimes, a little push in the right direction is all someone needs to remember such wisdom. Other times, they may need to be shoved.

Naka Desh Tribe

by Emmanubeth Hurrent, the Wayfarers' Society of Wayrest

My guide, Names-the-Orchids, took me deep into the swamp to meet a little-known tribe called the Naka-Desh, or Riverbacks. Few Imperials venture far enough into Black Marsh to meet the People of the River, and the Naka-Desh see little benefit in traveling beyond the boundaries of their Hist's roots. For that reason, most perceive them as a secretive and mysterious tribe. This misconception is made all the more amusing by the Riverbacks' boundless hospitality.

We approached the Riverbacks' territory via ferry boats. Our expedition encountered tribal sentries almost immediately. They floated to the surface of the water like turtles or crocodiles. I was struck by the wideness of their faces, the largeness of their eyes, and the broad webs adorning their forearms and throats. The Hist clearly provided the "right skin" for the locale. Riverback territory is more water than land—a drowned marsh navigable by small rafts, canoes, and little else.

Names-the-Orchids greeted them with a series of low croaks. They cheerfully repeated the sound before lifting themselves onto our boat. Neither of the sentries seemed familiar with Cyrodilic, so our guide had to interpret. She told us that the Riverbacks demanded tribute in the form of a riddle before they would grant passage. I detected no threat behind the demand. It seemed like more of an invitation than an order. I've no talent for wordplay, but I shared a children's riddle about doorknobs that practically every Imperial knows. As soon as Names-the-Orchids translated it, the two sentries clapped their hands. One of them pressed his forehead to mine, croaked twice, then both vanished into the water as suddenly as they appeared.

We spent four days among the Riverbacks—all but one of them on rafts fishing. Riverback fishing resembles traditional fishing in name only. Rather than hook and line, the Naka-Desh use large river fish called osheeja gars. Each osheeja is secured by a strange harness and bridle. When the Argonians find an abundant fishing spot, they release the predatory gars and let them snatch up the fish. As soon as an osheeja bites a fish, the Argonians pull their pets to the side of the boat and claim the fish for themselves. I asked Names-the-Orchids how it works. Apparently, the bridle prevents the gar from swallowing. She assured me that the osheejas are well-cared for, though. Until they grow too old, of course, whereupon they too are eaten.

Our time with the Riverbacks was not without frustration. Of all the Argonians I have met, the Naka-Desh were by far the least curious. Other than riddles, they had no appetite for anything we brought. They refused our food, took no particular interest in our tales, and did not even ask for our names. This disinterest combined with their boundless hospitality made most of the expedition uncomfortable. Names-the-Orchids chided us for thinking kindness demands reciprocity. As always, even these small disappointments teach us valuable lessons.

SURPRISE!!M$@%HER F%#KER!!!!!

It seems incredible to me that such a shapely peak should remain relatively undiscovered while the honey pot hills of the North are crawling with people...

Antheraea polyphemus, the Polyphemus moth, is a North American member of the family Saturniidae, the giant silk moths.[1] It is a tan-colored moth, with an average wingspan of 15 cm (6 in). The most notable feature of the moth is its large, purplish eyespots on its two hindwings. The eyespots give it its name – from the Greek myth of the cyclops Polyphemus. The species was first described by Pieter Cramer in 1776. The species is widespread in continental North America, with local populations found throughout subarctic Canada and the United States. The caterpillar can eat 86,000 times its weight at emergence in a little less than two months.

CP's afternoon Current River job's first task is to pull and spot Viterra C, although in this image its not immediately obvious which elevator is Viterra C. Radio chatter from the crew acknowledges they are at "ugga", but the Agricore United label adorns the bins. To explain this convoluted bit of names lets talk about the quick succession of mergers of grain companies which happened in the early 2000s.

Built originally in 1927 as United Grain Growers A House (or U.G.G.A.) and known as "ugga" for years until United Grain Growers were taken over by Agricore United (AU) in 2001. Late in 2006 AU was the target of takeover bids from SaskPool and James Richardsons & Sons(JRI). Although a merger announcement was made between AU and JRI in Feb 2007, SaskPool was able to sway the tide with a successful bidding war and their offer was accepted in June 2007 and on August 31, 2007, Agricore United and SaskPool rebranded itself as Viterra.

The Agricore chapter of this elevator was short but long enough to have it branded as such. Within months of this shot Viterra will put its brand on this elevator, listing it as Viterra "C" (A and B being down in Intercity). In 2009, Viterra would shutter this elevator and would remain so until late 2012 when Glencore International took over Viterra resulting in James Richardsons & Sons purchasing this facility. JRI soon reopened it and as of this posting in 2023 the elevator is operated as overflow for the bigger Richardsons Terminal next door. It is now known on paper as the Current River Elevator however crews still refer to it as "ugga"- some two decades after United Grain Growers was ever a thing. Even though it may be hard to break a century old habit, it's amazing how names stick.
