Although wing-walking has been around since the 1920s, for much of this time it was fairly sedate, usually involving a young lady firmly attached to the top wing of a Tiger Moth or similar type. Much more powerful Stearman aircraft and custom-designed wing-walking rigs allowed the act to become a whole lot more spectacular, with N54922 being one of the first aircraft of its type to be used in the UK, making its debut in 1987.
N54922 has been painted in a number of different colour schemes over the years, depending on who has been sponsoring it at the time. Its first sponsor was Yugo Cars, and it was painted in these colours until 1991.
The girl on the wing is Helen Tempest, who was the UK's first professional wing walker.
