“ El bosque me invita a observar
cada especie en su ritual.
Elefantes, pajaritos, monos, caballos, perros;
Todos juegan bajo un mismo cielo.”
La historia que hoy les voy a contar es sobre un grupo de elefantes grandes y perezosos. En éste conjunto en el que conviven, la mayoría son grises, y algunos son de colores.
Los días transcurren calurosos y ellos calman su sed bebiendo del agua que el río les ofrece para refrescarse. Un elefante rosa, uno amarillo y otro azul pasan su vida en la monotonía del gris sin conocer su color, ni el de los otros.
Atardece sobre el prado y el sol brilla mas fuerte en el horizonte. Los tonos resplandecen sobre el cielo resaltándole colorido por sobre el gris reinante. El elefante rosa descubre a lo lejos a un elefante azul. Esto llama su atención, ya que solo estaba acostumbrado a ver elefantes grises.
Entrada la noche nuestro amigo descubre que la distancia que lo separa de aquel colorido ser es inmensa. La helada apura, la luna ilumina, y los elefantes se van a dormir.
Por la mañana el elefante rosa deambula con la idea de encontrar a ese extraño ser que tanto llama su atención.
El día pasa sin noticias. Por la tarde ni se ven. El atardecer los acerca con su iridiscencia. En la noche se buscan e intentan acercarse. Es aquí cuando notan que los elefantes grises no ven con buena cara que ellos simpatizen…
Desilusionado por no poder acercarse, el elefante rosa decide alejarse del lugar.
Camina solo la noche, con su millar de estrellas, con su infinita inmensidad. Alejándose de todos los demás, camina sólo la noche, largas horas de andar y de andar.
Asi llega a un valle en cuyo fin hay un puente. Contemplando, observa a otros animales llegar de diferentes lados. Distintas especies, distintos colores, todos arribando al mismo lugar. Sorprendido, nuestro amigo sonrie y se regocija en el encuentro. Bailan esperanzados la maravilla de la diversidad.
Un arcoiris de animales alegres se dirige al puente y lo cruza bailando. Agotados, riendo y con un sincero gesto fraternal, al cruzar al otro lado del puente se asombran de lo que ven. Muchos como ellos, de muchas especies, de incontables matices, celebran juntos, se reconocen, y se identifican en la diversidad de unos y otros.
Se acercan empujados por la voluntad de andar otros caminos, de hacer nuevos amigos. Fortalecidos en la unidad.
Conviviendo libres bajo el Sol del nuevo día, multiples grupos de animales se divierten sobre el prado, compartiendo el alimento, interactuando unos con otros.
Nuestro amigo rosa se siente muy a gusto en éste nuevo hábitat, festeja y baila sin parar.
Al rato de andar y disfrutar, descubre a lo lejos que bajo un árbol descansa aquel elefante azul al que antes no habia podido acercarse. Camina a paso ligero hacaia allí, esta vez no hay monotonía que los pueda separar. Se sientan juntos bajo la sombra de un inmenso nogal y se ponen a charlar.
Los colores abundan en éste prado. Aquí se disfruta la paz, y todos juntos festejan el milagro de la diversidad…

Every autumn, my wife and I admire the foliage of this one tree in a neighbor's yard. There are multiple colored leaves on this one single tree!

I intentionally cropped and redacted this sign, posted in a clinic exam room, to protect both the innocent and the guilty.
Most of this sign is composed of the most overused inappropriate font ever, which needs no credit. Controversial typefaces Bradley Hand and Papyrus make jarring guest appearances. There's underlined text for fun, plus a smiley just asking for misinterpretation. And, adding to the typographical cacophony, a set of unnecessary quotation marks pays a visit. Maybe it's a good thing no errant apostrophes crashed this party.
As of December 2011, this sign has been replaced with a much simpler sign created entirely in the Lithos font.

Taken for this week's challenge of multiple exposure - two images combined in camera using the multiple exposure setting. I never this before.I'm not sure it really works - I will have to keep practicing. Yes, and a few days late as well.
Since beginning classes in August, 80 first year medical students at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine have been training as emergency medical technicians, working shifts on North Shore-LIJ ambulances and responding to 911 calls. Their training culminated recently in a Multiple Casualty Incident (MCI) conducted at the FDNY Training Center at Randall’s Island. Students were expected to provide emergency care during several different emergency exercises, which were all followed by full debriefing.
The MCI day was coordinated by the Fire Department of the City of New York at the department’s Training Academy on Randall’s Island, where more than 2,000 fire fighters and EMS personnel are trained each year.
