Gagarin is proud to announce the opening of a new interactive exhibition on renewable energy for Landsvirkjun Power Company at the hydro power station Búrfellsvirkjun. Gagarin produced the exhibition, created the concept and managed the development and implementation.

The purpose of this exhibition is to give visitors insight into how the power plants in Iceland operate, about future energy sources, Iceland’s geology and the energy usage of household appliances.

Gagarin’s ambition for this exhibition was to actively engage the visitors with innovative interactive installation. For example the visitors can operate a hydro power station, learn about the power plants in Iceland in an interactive table and use actual plug-ins to show the energy usage of household appliances.

The exhibition opened on June 11 and welcomes visitors every day throughout the summer.

Gagarin would like to thank the many colleagues that helped make this exhibition come alive:

My former student, Lee Byron, has kindly gifted me with a port of Yellowtail to the iPhone! Lee writes:

"Tonight I got my Developers Cert for iPhone. First things first, I made a promise. Golan, here is Yellowtail on iPhone! Give me another day and I'll have multi-touch spawning multiple wigglers at the same time.

Despite a semester of it, I still am not comfortable programming in Objective C. So this is also a demo of a rudimentary GLUT for iPhone, realistically just a massive hack though. I have a draw loop and 'touch' callback actions. And it's all in C++. I'm really missing the things I take for granted like 'max' and 'millis' and 'drawRect'. OpenGL-ES forces you to be a little trickier."

Lee has more information here: leebyron.com/how/2008/08/31/iphone-yellowtail/

Lee is a rising star, responsible for some wonderful visualizations and about to help direct infoviz projects at Facebook. Keep an eye out for his work.

Holy cow! It's a Tablet with an optional docking station/keyboard.

When it's docked, it looks/acts like a mini-laptop (but with a touch screen).

The keyboard increases the battery life of the tablet (cause it takes a charge too), plus connects to HDMI, and has USB2 and SD slots. So small, it fits in my purse! ...and it features Nvidia's Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor.

As we have all heard of and wanted. The dreamed of Mac Tablet. Well now, I introduce you with a concept I put together. Here is how I imagine the Mac 'Tablet'. Although, this device is a bit smaller than a usual tablet'.

this device contains a 7" Multi-touch glass screen with a black frame and chrome bezel around the screen. It's more like an enlarged iPod Touch rather than a 'tablet', which usual contain a larger screen. It would have a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor, 512MB - 1GB of RAM, 64GB flash memory, bluetooth, WiFi, and a cut down version of OS X Leopard or 'Snow Leopard' to fit the device.

Microchip announced a strategic partnership with Xymox Technologies to provide customers with a complete, cost-effective touch and gesture interface solution with industry-leading low-power touch electronics and printed flexible touch sensors supporting a wide range of existing and emerging markets. Part six of my iPod collecting adventure arrived this week in the form of the iPod Nano 6th Generation 8GB which I was lucky enough to receive as an early birthday present this week. It was purchased from the new Covent Garden Apple Store which was an incredible retail environment that has been lovingly restored and provided a great place to show off all of the new Apple designs.

Once I was dragged away from the 11.6" MacBook Air (kicking and screaming) I eventually decided on the 8GB Nano, for me to try to use as a watch, but mainly to be used when running. The hardware is amazingly small, so small that it really takes you by surprise when you see it in the flesh for the first time. The multi-touch display, although small, is amazingly responsive and the whole experience is brilliant.

I will be writing a full review for my personal blog at jonhume.co.uk but for now enjoy the unboxing photos.

Some of the most attractive women I saw in Japan were those working at the Panasonic Center. Well at least, none of them were unattractive, and by no mistake either.

The Panasonic Center is basically a large, several storied building whose purpose is purely promotions. They don't do research, they don't conduct business here, they don't even really sell things - it's pure PR. You book tours and tell them what you're interested in and they give a slick, well-rehearsed presentation, full of smiles.

Their English is some of the best I heard in Japan, too. Until you asked them questions off the script.

We weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but I will say that their idea of a future house is very cool (if impractical from current perspectives).

Best part of the tour: we were in the 'Future Corner' and they were showing us 'room' technology. There was a wall made up of large paneled displays, which together made up an interactive touch display screen. Our guide was showing how she could pick music from a virtual library, or flick a ball across the screen with realistic physics.

She asked if anyone wanted to try and someone came up to play with the ball. Then someone else came up to play with the clock at the same time, but it wasn't working. The girl said 'sorry, only one input at a time is supported right now'.

Then a friend leans over to me and says, "Too bad Apple already has multi-touch on the market". Hah so much for the future corner.
