Used as an interactive brand ambassador for their 'Business Customer Forum' events, telecoms giant EE used a multi-touch PufferSphere M display to educate their corporate customers at events in both London and Leeds.
A multi-buttons application, six standard format marketing videos were loaded into an animated reel which wrapped around the sphere. Visitors were then invited to rotate the carousel and select one of the videos to learn more about what 4GEE could do for their business.
Building custom enclosures for the events, the team at Pufferfish worked closely with event and brand experts Communique Live to ensure that the display was transformed into an interactive portal fit for its setting.

Here's a photo of an iPhone showing a photo of an iPhone showing a photo of me. I had to take this meta-snapshot with my N6600 camera because the iPhone photo app lacks any visible bluetooth or infrared send capability, and sending email requires setting up an account. I tried signing into Flickr but all I got was a mess of timeouts, and anyway I'm not sure I would have been able to upload the photo through the Flickr form since I don't know how local file browsing for photos would have worked. The multi-touch interface is wonderful, but touchscreen keyboard input is a nightmare, and AT&T's data transfer speeds are a disgrace. iPhone, C+.

Pete, George and I were at Bliss Dance Studio on Treasure Island on saturday.
The people there at the time were Marco, Katy, Jenni Nelson, Kirk Hampson, and new welder, Al Stahler.
The tech info sources for my visit were Marco and Al:
Marco was talking about a refinement of the multi-touch wand tool, which has two curvy arms added, now, whose job is only to stabilize the rig.
Al showed how the placement of the surface balls are more accurate, this time. They help the mesh to be smoother than before.

Jenni Nelson can be seen at the beginning of this five minute video, pre-cutting metal. She measures gaps for rod stock and cuts the metal to size. Then she positions the rod and holds it in place with magnets. Then the welder comes by and does the tack weld. Pre-cutting saves alot of time.

Touch works but tilting is impossible. (I haven't figured out the Vulcan-neck-pinch finger maneuver for this one.) Pinching does nothing. :( It would be great it pinching was converted into zooming-in and zooming-out commands.
Mind you, it's amazing that the monitor works with my Shrek-like hands.

Part six of my iPod collecting adventure arrived this week in the form of the iPod Nano 6th Generation 8GB which I was lucky enough to receive as an early birthday present this week. It was purchased from the new Covent Garden Apple Store which was an incredible retail environment that has been lovingly restored and provided a great place to show off all of the new Apple designs.
Once I was dragged away from the 11.6" MacBook Air (kicking and screaming) I eventually decided on the 8GB Nano, for me to try to use as a watch, but mainly to be used when running. The hardware is amazingly small, so small that it really takes you by surprise when you see it in the flesh for the first time. The multi-touch display, although small, is amazingly responsive and the whole experience is brilliant.

Used as an interactive brand ambassador for their 'Business Customer Forum' events, telecoms giant EE used a multi-touch PufferSphere M display to educate their corporate customers at events in both London and Leeds.
A multi-buttons application, six standard format marketing videos were loaded into an animated reel which wrapped around the sphere. Visitors were then invited to rotate the carousel and select one of the videos to learn more about what 4GEE could do for their business.
Building custom enclosures for the events, the team at Pufferfish worked closely with event and brand experts Communique Live to ensure that the display was transformed into an interactive portal fit for its setting.

Some things just happen at the wrong time. Maybe this was one of them.
This is a Nokia E7, and it is an exquisitely beautiful device. A touch screen for when you want it, and a cleverly concealed QWERTY keyboard when you don't - all united via an ingenious hinge. The display is a capacitive multi touch AMOLED, the camera an 8MP with dual LED flash. It has an ARM11 CPU and a mini HDMI socket.
Designed from the group up as a business phone, this phone is the business. But it shipped with Symbian, and there sounds the death knell.
There's nothing wrong with Symbian. It's a powerful OS with pre-emptive multitasking and a design principle that resources are scarce and so is very lean. The two things that probably killed it where a lack of software support when apps were becoming fashionable, and perhaps more significantly a UI that just didn't work well with touch.
It's a real crying shame, as this shell with some speedier guts and a snappier OS would be a gorgeous device today. 8 years ago this was a £495 pocket computer. Today, it's likely to become a plaything for Ethan. Tragic.
