Probably once a mudroom or kitchen, I suppose. Too bad about this poor house. Anywhere else in town it would be worth plenty of money, but nothing brings down property value like students. :P
Apologies if this gets a little tedious, but honestly, this place is going to be completely wiped off the map, hillside and all, so I want to document it the best that I can.
Spent time running around a neighborhood that will likely soon be completely destroyed and replaced with more student condos. Over 20 houses are due to be demolished, joining a wave of destruction that I'm not sure will ever be stopped. These houses have been student rentals for many years, but the neighborhood is incredibly unique, due to how it is built into the surrounding landscape and it's almost park-like atmosphere among the hills and valleys. A trolley stop used to be a short walk away, and city maintained steps kept everyone connected. There was little need for a car, so these houses were actually convenient when they were built.
This curved wall was tricky to work around but so worth it for the fun factor of having a curved wall.
We recently fixed up our little mudroom to be a really nice little guest area. It really helps in a small apartment, and before we were only really using it as a "junk that we can't figure out what to do with" room.
The lantern here and the lanterns opposite on the windows operate by John's CLAPPER, which I am really bad at. It won't recognize my measly claps.
We still need to do some touchup painting, add the drawer for Lucy's bowls, add some hooks, and cleanup the paint spillage.
This room looks good.
all done with mortar and laying tiles! now we just need to do the grout and sealant.
this is the argentine encaustic tile that we bought in buenos aires and had shipped to maine via cargo freight when we moved! it was a big process and it feels great to finally have it in!
my first time back to the family home...
my first time back here since my life changed.
my first time back here since i arrived all broken and sad last summer.
oddly, i feel so much stronger now.
and glad to be here with those who love me.
but families are complicated, especially mine with all it's characters and all their quirks - this will be good but it won't be easy.
i am going to need that strength.
(and perhaps something to drink)

This is a shot of a little side porch / mudroom on an abandoned house in Indiana Pa. The whole structure on this house was unsound.
Steps:
1) Ask cousin for small deer antlers from his ranch where he collects dropped antlers. Thanks, Scott.
2) Pick three that have several points for hanging stuff, then decide how I want them to sit on the wall, and cut with a hacksaw at the appropriate angle.
3) Pre-drill 1/4" hole, then thread the double-ended screw into the antler. Pre-drill the white oak shiplap, then screw the antler into the wall.
They turned out nice, and are pretty beefy, can hold a good amount of weight.
