Mt. Olivet Homes Honors its veterans

Aerial view of stunning Mt Taranaki (aka Mt Egmont), rearing its majestic head above the cloud layer. I was in a plane flying from Auckland to Wellington, seated at the right-hand window, and I was trying to see if there was anything spectacular outside the left-hand windows. The lady next to me quietly nudged me and pointed to this awesome sight that was patiently waiting out the right-hand windows for me! She then told me how to pronounce it properly (all short a's).

 

I have another photo that is more close-up than this one (using the optical zoom on the camera) but I think this one gives a better sense of scale.

Easily visible, Mt. Hood keeps an eye on the Portland area.

A closeup of Mt. Hood from Red Hill/Mars Hill. The hill was called that because of all the red lava gravel covering the hill, resembling the landscape of Mars.

So the volcano observatory website has a photo of Mt. Spurr taken on this day and says that haze is ash... so that's apparently what we ARE seeing here and not just a cloud.

The area near the very small volcano of Mt Angelo, situated at the back of the Bukal (literally Boiling) Elementary School in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley. This is the source of hot springs in the area.
