The light was so intense the other morning in Mt. Vernon, Washington. We were hunting for daffs but fell in love with this flooded field that held the light's reflection.

Mount Goodsir (or the Goodsir Towers) is the highest mountain in the Ottertail Range, a subrange of the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia. It is located in Yoho National Park, near its border with Kootenay National Park. The mountain has two major summits, the South Tower (the higher summit) and the North Tower, 3,525 metres (11,565 ft).
The mountain was named by James Hector in 1859 after two brothers, John Goodsir (a Professor of Anatomy at Edinburgh University) and H.D.S. Goodsir (a surgeon on the ship HMS Erebus).
The standard route on the South Tower is the southwest ridge, a straightforward but long climb (Grade III), which consists primarily of non-technical terrain, but includes short sections of narrow ridge graded YDS 5.4. Access to any route on either Tower requires a long hike.

mt rubidoux
i was in riverside for a single night for work and knew there was a cool mountain (rubidoux) with a great view of the city. i checked it out on the map and realized i had just enough time to walk there from my hotel after checking in to catch the sunset. unfortunately i didn't realize how high it was, and by the time i got to the top the sun was long gone. it was still a great view of the city though.
Mt Kosciuszko is the highest peak of the Main range in the snowy mountains and as such the highest mountain in Australia. As can be seen here its 2228 meters is far from a towering peak and the top can be reached by hiking.
In summer the alpine wild-flowers are flowering on the hillsides.

Mt Fuji was only visible on this one day during the whole week we were there. Half an hour after this was taken, it was no covered by clouds again.
Walking plan - Ascend Mount Kliosi and the Acropolis of Styra.
An early morning drive along the panoramic mountain road to the North, known as the 'Eagle Route', taking us above the evergreen valley of Styra. Then climb to Mt Kliosi's summit to the remains of the ancient acropolis. The Eerie ancient Gate, the cave of St Nicolas and the ruins of Castro Armeno were highlights. The return descent past the remains of the Roman marble quarries to the quaint villages of Styra Valley, which overlook Marathon, just across the water on mainland Greence.

Only 30% of visitors to Alaska actually see this mountain. It has its own weather system and is often surrounded by clouds. It appears for us on our first day and is not seen again during our visit. It is almost like magic how one minute it wasn't there and then suddenly it was, then just as quickly gone again.
Mount Rainier is a dormant stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) in Pierce County, Washington, located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle. It towers over the Cascade Range as the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States and Cascade Volcanic Arc at 14,411 feet (4,392 m).[1][2] It is the highest mountain in Washington and the Cascade Range.
The mountain and the surrounding area are protected within Mount Rainier National Park. With 26 major glaciers and 35 square miles (91 km2) of permanent snowfields and glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states. The summit is topped by two volcanic craters, each over 1,000 feet (300 m) in diameter with the larger east crater overlapping the west crater. Geothermal heat from the volcano keeps areas of both crater rims free of snow and ice, and has formed the world's largest volcanic glacier cave network within the ice-filled craters.[7] A small crater lake about 130 by 30 feet (40 by 9.1 m) in size and 16 feet (5 m) deep, the highest in North America with a surface elevation of 14,203 feet (4,329 m), occupies the lowest portion of the west crater below more than 100 feet (30 m) of ice and is accessible only via the caves.[8] [9]
Mount Rainier has a topographic prominence of 13,211 feet (4,027 m), greater than that of K2 (13,189 feet (4,020 m)).[4] On clear days it dominates the southeastern horizon in most of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area to such an extent that residents sometimes refer to it simply as "the Mountain."[10] On days of exceptional clarity, it can also be seen from as far away as Portland, Oregon, and Victoria, British Columbia.
The Carbon, Puyallup, Mowich, Nisqually, and Cowlitz Rivers begin at eponymous glaciers of Mount Rainier. The sources of the White River are Winthrop, Emmons, and Fryingpan Glaciers. The White, Carbon, and Mowich join the Puyallup River, which discharges into Commencement Bay at Tacoma; the Nisqually empties into Puget Sound east of Lacey; and the Cowlitz joins the Columbia River between Kelso and Longview.

ok, this architectural update is comprised of a lot of pictures. because today i went to the best place in l.a: mt wilson observatory. and if, possibly, i've labeled other places as the best places in l.a, well, at the time they were. and they might be again. but today the best place in l.a, at least according to me, is mt wilson observatory... tmblr.co/ZHkOLwOgZdNZ
