An abandoned bridge by Cessford. I don't know if it was from an abandoned road or rail. It's narrow enough I think it was rail but there wasn't a line here according to the IDOT abandonment PDF, so it would have to have been a siding for the quarry. I hope to get better pics of the 4 or 5 abandoned rail bridges/culverts/drainage trestles/abutments I know of in Tama county one of thsee days.
The location is approximately correct. It's on that side of the road north of LeGrand, between 2 Cessford driveways.
edit: the more I look at this side the more I'm thinking road bridge.... at the moment anyway. :)
One of my favorite depots, the former M&STL depot in Fairfax, MN is now a museum. The line is now owned by the Minnesota Prairie Line, a subsidiary of the Twin Cities and Western. Work has been done on this line as there seems to be heavier rail, new ballast, and the replacement of some ties.
The Peoria Gateway, via the Western railway Museum in Rio Vista, CA. I found this beauty sitting in front of their car barn.
I've seen pictures of a trackmobile at PLE around IARR's startup. This might be it, I'd have to find the pics. Either way it's looking really beat up now. Their is nother siding on the west side of the main here, in addition to the one in the foreground.
Empty grain train 382 is parked on the ex-MSTL track on the south side of town. The cars came from the UP at Manly, IA.
One of the signature things for me about the IARR is the oil stain down the middle of the tracks. Taken from the viaduct on a gravel road north of Eldora.
Last year before they reworked IA175 and the crossing lights behind me they took out a siding on the right.
A poor attempt at a before and after shot in Liscomb about 2 months apart. It makes me appreciate the work Mark LLanuza goes through for these. Next time the laptop goes along so I can se the shot I want to match. I find the shots are far enough off of each other the affect is a little disorientating. When I took the shot and even looking at them separately I thought I was standing closer to in the same spot than I was.
Taken from the viaduct south of United Suppliers, I had hoped to get some overhead shots of the IARR here and on the north side of Eldora, and in Marshalltown at the UP interchange but didn't get the chance.
Downtown Keithsburg, IL has seen better times, but this old bar has a couple of neat painted signs on its brick wall. Notice the M&StL geep #700 down at the end of the building! Just like old times in Keithsburg!

Sunset on the Des Moines River at Eddyville, IA. Sept 4, 2007. Taken with a point-n-shoot digital camera. Bridge is on the Oskaloosa sub of the Union Pacific Railroad (former MSTL)
It looks like back in the day there was a siding on the East of the main on the south side of Eldora in addition to the west side.
Jeremy Rigney from Banagher College won the NCE-MSTL Mathematics in Science Award and also received 1st place in the Junior Ericcson Technology Awards (Individual) for his project ‘Game based learning using scratch maths concepts’ at the SciFest Festival at Athlone Institute of Technology. All this time, I had no idea there were 2 grey and red CNW MOW cars in Altoona. They've been here for years and may remain here for some time. The crane in the middle wears UP logos, but does have a bright yellow S-3L for a horn. Kinda neat.
And to add to that, these flatcars are CGW and MSTL!
I had to be in Marshalltown today and picked up a couple pics I've intended to get but haven't.
In November of 2012 I went on a tour with the M&StL Yahoo group before they pulled up the rail on the IARR from here to Ackley. I always thought about a couple more shots but this is what can happen if you wait.
It looks to me like there was a siding on the West side of the main, and the east (see ...ELD25) on the south side of Eldora back in the day.
I had to be in Marsshalltown today and picked up a couple pics I've intended to get but haven't.
What, a month ago or so they demoed the old M&StL freight house that the derecho damaged enough it had to go.
I got a decent number of shots of the Steamboat Rock bridge. Now to get shots of the bridges at Gifford,Union, and Marshalltown/Albion.......
