Mp postal emu 3017 in new yellow and red colors entering postal tracks at Rotterdam CS.
Forty years ago today I made a trip to Rotterdam CS station to get some train shot. It was overcast with light snow every now and then. We saw postal trains, some IC trains and an empty oil train with 2200 engines.
Op de gure 1 april 2022 mocht de fraai gerestaureerde mP3031 van het Spoorwegmuseum weer een keer de benen strekken. Nadat in de sneeuw was vertrokken verdween deze voor de spreekwoordelijke zon in de loop van de dag. Aangezien de mP aan het eind van de middag weer langs Schalkwijk zou komen en ook de TCS Dinner Train zou passeren werd de ijskoude wind getrotseerd en stelling genomen bij het bekende kerkje. Alhoewel de mP met bijna een kwartier vertraging was vertrokken, bleek deze bij passage van Schalkwijk weer zo goed als op tijd te zijn en op blokafstand achter TCS zien we de fraaie motorPost hier de kleumende fotograaf passeren op weg naar het NSM.

MP15D AMTK 575 spends a quiet evening at Amtrak's Race Street facility adjacent to 30th Street Station Philadelphia, PA.
Naast de mP 3029 is ook de mP 3031 nog rijvaardig. Deze motorpost in de originele bruine kleur is in eigendom van het Spoorwegmuseum en al weer enige tijd niet rijdend te zien geweest. De bruine kleur lijkt overigens ook enigszins te verbleken. Op 30 mei 2021 reed deze mP samen met de mP3029 van de stichting CREW2454 een rit naar Blerick, terwijl beide mP's in de avond op eigen kracht weer retour reden naar hun domicile. De 3031 reed op blokafstand achter de eerder getoonde 101002 van TCS met ketels en ik had daarom bedacht om direct na die foto enkele tientallen meters te verplaatsen om vanaf de weg deze mP bij het fietspad vast te leggen. Terwijl ik me in positie plaatste kwamen uit het niets ineens twee fietsers het fietspad afrijden. De twee vroegen of er iets bijzonders kwam en besloten even te wachten toen ik vertelde dat er een oude posttrein onderweg was. Het was maar goed dat beide fietsers bleven staan want zij konden mij op tijd waarschuwen voor een Volvo die met belachelijk hoge snelheid tegen de trein in uit het 5 km verder gelegen Culemborg aan kwam scheuren en met opspattend grind deze onoverzichtelijke bocht nam om het fietspad op te scheuren. Enkele seconden later zien we de fraaie mP3031 hier bij het fietspad ter hoogte van Tricht passeren op weg naar het Spoorwegmuseum.

A southbound CSX autrorack train passes the unique signal configuration at the south end of Bradner, OH on the Pemberville Sub. At one time, a center siding occupied this stretch of track. It was removed during the time of the Chessie System. The signals met their end in 2018.

Right-of-Way Road and the Summit Creek lie below this northbound CN train on the approach to South Big Foot. We're at milepost 382 on Canadian National's Superior Subdivision.
One of the shots I got of this train on a chase last month. Yes, there is an EMD tucked in at the back of the consist. Missabe Sub MP 14.
De mP 3028 is als sternet posttrein onderweg van Arnhem goederen naar Utrecht GE is nog maar net onderweg en passeert Arnhem Velperpoort op 12-7-1990. Deze mP was als een van weinige nog in de jarentachtig opschriften.

Na een tip ( waarvoor dank ! ) werd er spoorslag naar Amersfoort gereisd omdat daar de show van Crew 2454 gaande was.
Begin van de middag werd het materieel weer naar zijn vast plek gerangeerd.
We zien mP 3029, stalen D wagon, de diesel 2454, 2 keetwagens en achterop Sik 276 die hier de sleep duwde.

It’s amazing how transformative ultraviolet fluorescence can be. This is a black weevil sitting on a white daisy to our eyes, but when photographed with intense ultraviolet light, the fluorescing light bouncing off is magical. View large and read on!
I was out for a walk with my daughter yesterday and along the road was a small patch of daisies. I was going to pick one for her, but I realized she had already fallen asleep. I still went to pluck one for later, but noticed a very tiny weevil resting in the center. This quickly became MY flower, and while my daughter slept in her stroller I hurried back home to get this weevil unto my UV studio setup.

Weevils are generally cooperative insects, and this one was also sluggish from a colder night. I could gently poke it’s backside to get him to move in the direction I wanted, towards the outer edge of the petals. He was still somewhat unpredictable, but eventually this pose happened and I thought it was more dynamic “hanging off” than just a static resting position. Shortly after the image was taken, he warmed up and became quite active and I was unable to get the same level of cooperation. That’s quite alright – I already got the shot I was after.
The flashes I’m using only emit ultraviolet light, which the camera cannot directly see. If UV light bounced back to the camera, we’d get a black image. The visible light that bounces off the subject has fluoresced from the UV spectrum to give us what you’re looking at. UVIVF or UltraViolet-Induced Visible Fluorescence is the physics at work here – nothing special about the camera, it’s unmodified – it’s all about getting a purely UV-only light source.
Most things fluoresce, but to such a small degree that we would never know it. I’ve modified Yongnuo 685 flashes to remove a UV blocking filter and then adding two 77mm filters to the front of the flash head: a MidOpt BP365 and a Hoya U340. Each of these block the visible spectrum almost entirely, but each one bleeds a bit on opposite ends of visible (one red, the other purple). Combined, the isolate UV very nicely. They’re not cheap, however! In order to get enough light for this image to be made, I need three of these flashes at point-blank range at full power.
Even with that much UV light, this image required ISO 8000. While the depth of field is very shallow, F/8 was used to get as much in focus as possible at roughly 2:1 magnification and cropped in heavily from there. Technically speaking this image is just barely possible to be made – it pushes limits. Visually, we end up with something out of this world – a white flower with a black beetle become something enchanting.

The MP Lafer was an automobile built in Brazil by Lafer S.A. beginning in 1974.[1] Created by Percival Lafer, a furniture manufacturer, the MP Lafer was a fiberglass-bodied two-seat roadster that took its styling cues from the classic British sports cars of the 1940s and early '50s, with a strong resemblance to the MG T-series and Morgan Plus 4. Unlike those, however, its chassis, engine, manual transmission, steering and suspension were from the Volkswagen Beetle (known as the Fusca in Brazil). Although the stock VW Type 1 four-cylinder made it somewhat underpowered, the MP Lafer became a sought-after car in its time. Approximately 4,300 were built over the MP Lafer's 16-year production span. The Lafer was available in two models—the classic MP and the more modern TI, introduced in March 1984.[1] Some 1,000 were exported, most to Europe but some to the United States.
