Taken from an overlook on the way up Mount Lemmon near Tucson, Arizona. The red hue in the sky is from the lights of Tucson. Check out my other lightning picture taken during this same evening.

Note: At one point in time, this photo made the Flickr Explore page for July 7, 2007.

On July 29 2015 I joined Ned and the gang on one of the summer Mount Lemmon hikes. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

Went four wheeling in a very off the grid area north of Tucson, Arizona on the backside of Mount Lemmon with one lane wide dirt roads as far as the eye could see. So grateful that our hosts could recall the way home. I would have had no idea how to navigate back to civilization and needless to say we had no connection to technology that could have helped to guide us. Enjoyed amazing views of mountains all around us including the Galiuro Wilderness area in the distance (40 miles away) with Mount Graham's snowy peak of almost 11,000 feet visible to the left.

These mountain wave clouds persisted throughout the day near Mt Lennon (elev. 9159 feet).

An early snowfall on Mt Lemmon, the high point of the Catalina Mountains. This is the scene to the east of our property. The brown trees are the ones killed by the Buckhorn fire that raged through the whole mountain chain last summer, forcing us to evacuate. Amazingly, there are still some green trees and bushes. Perhaps some plants will regrow from the roots.

It's the first rain in this summer's monsoon season.

This free-standing rock was created by a road cutting on the Catalina Highway in the Santa Catalina Mountains on the edge of Tucson, AZ. This part of the Coronado National Forest was obscured by clouds that had settled low on the mountains.

This was taken from Windy Point close to Mount Lemmon (just north of Tucson, AZ). The lights are the city of Tucson. The cloudy region is where it is raining in the city.

Mount Lemmon. Arizona. 4/28/2016.

Just got back from a week in SE Arizona where I went to focus on western warblers. My good friend David Cree went along with me. He's been there multiple times, and his experience with western species was helpful. Between his experience, and my ear we were able to locate almost all of our target species for photography.

Mexican Jays love peanuts. this Jay first landed on this broken limb and spotted something inside. He quickly grabbed a peanut and took off.

Mexican Jays are found in the pine-oak canyons of the South Western Mountains, USA. These photos were taken on Mount Lemmon in Tucson, AZ.
