This is a view of Tucson from one of the viewpoints on the scenic road to Mt. Lemmon. The sunset colors were gloriously vivid. Hope everyone enjoys this marvelous landscape.

Hmmm, wouldn't want to have to count! Would rather just take in this wonderful view of saguaros literally as far as the eye can see with spring wildflowers intermxed to brighten up the landscape. This shot was taken near the base of Mount Lemmon as we began the accent up to 9,171' which took us through 6 different ecosystems. Here are a few more photos from that day: flic.kr/p/2pKgQ2K and flic.kr/p/2pKgaAR .

The Sonoran Desert is also known as the "green desert" it is also the most biodiverse desert on the earth and such a joy to explore. Enjoyed a visit to Mount Lemmon which is a breathtaking drive, fortunately with many lookout points along the way. Here are a few more photos from that day: flic.kr/p/2pKgQ2K and flic.kr/p/2pKhpxy .

We stopped to photograph this beautiful sunset coming down from mount lemmon.

Multiple mountain ranges...Galiuros in the middle distance, and the Santa Catalinas (Mt. Lemmon) in the distance. Taken from atop West Peak in the Pinaleños in Graham County.

This Junco has piercing eyes. This species is only found in the mountains of Arizona and New Mexico above 6,000 feet.

Mexican Jays love peanuts. this Jay first landed on this broken limb and spotted something inside. He quickly grabbed a peanut and took off.

A fantastic morning after a night of shooting. Many thanks to my tour guide and host Greg McCown. A very memorable time spent in Arizona.

Marshall Gulch Mount Lemmon

On July 29 2015 I joined Ned and the gang on one of the summer Mount Lemmon hikes. We hiked the loop formed by the Mt. Lemmon Trail and the Meadow Trail (formerly the Power Line Road and the Lemmon Park Trail) at the top of the mountain.

A solitary Pinon Pine at Windy Point on Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina mountains north of Tucson, AZ. Stunted by the poor soil (rock!) and battered by the mountain wind it is only about 6-8 feet tall.It is rather like a large bonsai. These trees live from 300 to 600 years. Shot in digital infrared.

RAW file processed with RAW Therapee.

This image was one I've been working on for awhile. The highest resolution image I've worked on to date. This is a 57 exposure shot of our Milky Way arching over Rose Canyon Lake, Arizona. Tucson light pollution only 20 miles away, but at over 7,000 ft, it has little effect on the clarity of the Milky Way away from the glow.

As I grow as a photographer, I find it ever more difficult to let little things go in my images. Some have said it may be detrimental spending so much time editing... that people love quantity over quality, but I refuse to believe that. I hope I never settle, and always strive to better my last.

One of my favorite Nikola Tesla quotes:

"A single ray of light from a distant star falling upon the eye of a tyrant in bygone times, may have altered the course of his life, may have changed the destiny of nations, may have transformed the surface of the globe, so intricate, so inconceivably complex are the processes of nature."

The weather can change quickly during the summer monsoon, especially up in the mountains. This storm blew up out of nowhere and sent me scrambling off an exposed ridge to lessen my chances of becoming a human lightning rod. I got soaked but that's far better than fried - Santa Catalina Mountains, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
