Went to Mount Auburn Cemetery with my First Year Seminar, Creating Memory, today. It was very fitting, especially after rereading my favorite book, Beloved, in the class. I very much enjoyed our day in Cambridge.

View of the Mount Olympus range in the Pacific Northwest US region. This was taken from Hurricane Ridge point which gives you a great view of the Mount Olympus mountain range. Very often you will see deer and other smaller wildlife animals grazing.
A sunrise over Mount Assiniboine as seen from Lake Magog. Mount Assiniboine has another name as the Matterhorn of Canadian Rockies. It is one of my most favorite place in Canada. To get to this spot, you need to hike 30km one way, or flying a helicopter for $150 one-way.

Mount Bromo, is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.
Usually I bring the wide angle when I hike a mountain. I have been meaning to bring the telephoto for a while, but I was scared I'd bring the telephoto and then I'd miss out on capturing an awesome huge expansive scene. Anyway, I worked up the courage to bring the telephoto last weekend and I am happy I did. This is the view of the sunrise from Mount Major.
This is only a diarama of the real thing. There is no one to attribute this lovely work of art to. This mountain has deep cultural significance to all Koreans and the entire mountain was Korean territory since time immemorial. Sadly, one of the previous NoKo dictators sold half of it to China.
Paektu Mountain or Baekdu Mountain is an active stratovolcano on the Chinese–North Korean border. In China, it is known as Changbai Mountain. At 2,744 m, it is the tallest mountain in North Korea and Northeast China and the tallest mountain of the Baekdu-daegan and Changbai mountain ranges. {Courtesy of Wikipedia]
The Mount is the home of the St Aubyn family. Either walk across the causeway when the tide is out or go by boat to the island. Then walk up a steep path to the old Monastery. www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk/ The water is Mounts Bay.
"the white volcano with no weather side;
the lightning flashing at its base"
-- Marianne Moore, "An Octopus"
Moore was referring to her experiences on Mount Rainier in the 1920s, but she could have easily been writing about Mount Baker. "An Octopus" is a tough poem, and I'm not sure it holds up in its entirety, but it has flashes of brilliance.
Mt Evans at sunset. This was a 3 minute, 20 second exposure, and you can see the light trail of a plane or helicopter just this side of the mountain.
This is Mount Borah, the tallest mountain in Idaho at 12,662 ft. It resides in the Lost River mountain range in south central Idaho. In the lower right corner you can see the scarp fault line from the 1983 earthquake that dropped the valley floor approximately 15 feet.

Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Its height since 2014 is listed as 3,724 metres (12,218 feet), down from 3,764 m (12,349 ft) before December 1991, due to a rockslide and subsequent erosion. It lies in the Southern Alps, the mountain range which runs the length of the South Island. A popular tourist destination, it is also a favourite challenge for mountain climbers. Aoraki / Mount Cook consists of three summits, from South to North the Low Peak (3,593 m or 11,788 ft), Middle Peak (3,717 m or 12,195 ft) and High Peak. The summits lie slightly south and east of the main divide of the Southern Alps, with the Tasman Glacier to the east and the Hooker Glacier to the southwest
Mount Robson is the most prominent mountain in North America's Rocky Mountain range; it is also the highest point in the Canadian Rockies. The mountain is located entirely within Mount Robson Provincial Park of British Columbia, and is part of the Rainbow Range. Mount Robson is the second highest peak entirely in British Columbia, behind Mount Waddington in the Coast Range. The south face of Mount Robson is clearly visible from the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16), and is one of the most photographed features along this route. [...].

It is interesting to learn how the workers performed their jobs. They were all out of work miners from the area. To carve the faces, they were suspended by cables on a little swing seat and would secure themselves to the rock with a chain using a similar device that a rock climber would use today. This chain would hold the workers to the face of the mountain while they jack hammered holes in which they placed explosives. They could blow away rock until they were three inches away from the desired surface. The rest they would chisel, and then buff. The worker's abdomens became so strong that they could jack hammer upwards into the nose and use their stomach muscles to drive the jack hammer.

Mount Bental is one of Israel’s favorite mountain peaks to visit, partly due to the great panoramic views of the Golan and even Syria but also because Mount Bental was the site of a courageous battle fought during Israel’s war for the Golan. A short drive up, the mountain-top provides both scenic beauty and a glimpse back at the past – with bunkers open to visitors.
