Yeah, I guess that’s technically where I was. Last weekend was camping with the boys out near Fayettville and Columbus, TX. A friend of a friend of a brother’s fiance’s uncle’s brother’s family owns some land out there, so we packed up (or other people did) and we headed out for a raucous weekend full of shooting, grilling, bonding, and (unfortunately) getting Loko’d.

The first night was pretty wild, full of drinking and hijinks (we was huntin’ wabbit) and lots of alien talk. Sometime are 3AM, somebody had the bright idea of driving off into the woods to hunt boar. I mean, I love bacon as much as the next guy, but it was pretty ridiculous. I think between us we had four guns, a camera, and two flashlights. Needless to say, the best thought and preparation did not go into this venture.

There was a really hard frost this morning.....while looking out the window I saw the sky turning pink, this vapour trail changed colour before my eyes.

This is also my first attempt at a drop shadow in photoshop, still needs a little bit of work....

I hope you're all not too exhausted with the rushing around ;-))

I'll be around to see your photos in between wrapping some pressies....LOL

A short distance into our early morning trek to the 4700m high base of Salkantay in the Peruvian Andes, our mules pause for a drink.

We started the day just prior to first light. At 4600m high (14,000 feet) and in a tent, you can imagine it was a pretty cold and achy start to a day that would see us walking around 20km, first up to the highest point in our 4-day hike then down into the Peruvian cloud forest where we would remain until reaching Machu Picchu.

Our first task was to wake up and warm up cold muscles and then jog to the top of a 50m high mound of lateral glacial moraine. Our hope was to get a clear view of Salkantay at sunrise with the glacial terminus in the foreground. Our breathless exertions were rewarded by a view of the massive bulk of Salkantay's 6300m peak changing colours as the dawn light hit it well before the sun rose for us.

A quick breakfast of quinoa porridge later and we were on our way up to the base of the looming peak, walking alongside glacial detritus and the small lakes of crystal clear water formed by spring and being enlarged by the rising sun. It was by one of these lakes that this photo was taken with my point and shoot.

Despite being only a short while into the hike and the scene's beauty, I didn't have the energy to get my DSLR out! Sadly this was framed facing away from Salkantay. It would have been ideal to have it in the photo but the mules were behind us and Salkantay was ahead.

Today is National Daisy Day (my favorite). It's 35 with dense fog here.

More sad news at SWFL, I posted an update. Pray for all our eagles and wildlife.

Each morning I go out with my dog for the usual early walk in the country, just outside town. This morning, Oct.16th, I found the first heavy fog of the season. We have plenty of fog here during all the cold months, being ours a land of rivers, canals, spings and with especially spread rice fields - rice being our main agricultural production. As I had the camera with me, I took the first picture of fog of the season. The bird you see is a blue heron, one of the many that thrive in the rice paddies, catching frogs, snails, mice and small fish. Lovely birds, nevertheless. Quite common too.

La prima nebbia della stagione della Bassa Novarese. La foto è fresca, fresca, di stamattina. Ho persino preso un airone cinerino nella foto. Ce ne son tanti, qui da noi...

This is from about a week ago. Will be on the water tomorrow morning and hoping for weather similar to this. If the weather doesn't cooperate, I might just zip the camera in the case and paddle around for a while as I need to get out.

Our morning drive homeward bound. We found ourselves in bumper to bumper traffic. An early morning drive through Ottawa after a wonderful weekend celebrating my birthday.

I read somewhere that there are photo opportunities to last you a lifetime within a two mile radius of where you live. I didn't have to travel long for this :)

Hope you are having a great week,

Thanks for the comments and visits.

This was the sky that greeted me this morning and I couldn't resist capturing it. The only thing I've done to the original is crop it to remove a tv aerial - the colours are absolutely as seen! It looks nice on a black background.

I took my coffee to the garden this morning...as the sun began to flood the flowers that are blooming in this early season..it is a meditation for me to just walk around, pull a weed or two, check for slugs and other critters...and mostly just being...taking photos...sitting...thinking...coming alive again with the sun, morning, and flowers. Music is by the late Steve Halprin, from his album Golden Voyage.

A breath of autumn air

a puff to match the cloud

crops ready for harvest

stalks ready to be plowed

... horizon begins its awakening

colors bright and intense

trees stand like silhouettes

an intricate web like fence

sunlight warms the morning

brilliant colors light the sky

lean upon the wooden fence

indulge in morning fresh..and sigh.

The last few summers here have been especially hot and dry....and I know some of you are in areas suffering from drought right now. But this summer here we've been relieved to have rain and cooler temperatures, and the other morning was lush with dew. Hoping for relief from drought for those suffering.

Just a little something for your Sunday morning viewing. Will be on and off and in and out for the next week. Hope you're having a great weekend and that you're upcoming week is kind to you.

Zorie was helping Mom blend eggs in the kitchen. Her sweet smile looked so warm in the cold morning. Yeah~It was surely a lovely morning!

I decided to play with shooting black and white rather than converting to black and white in pp. Morning light was warming these to bullies as they were at alert for anything interesting. Larger stares.
