built in 1958 to memorialize Cambodia's independence from France in 1953. It stands on the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard in the center of the city. It is in the form of a lotus-shaped stupa, of the style seen at the Khmer temple at Banteay Srei and other Khmer historical sites.

Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the southern border of Utah with northern Arizona (around 36°59′N 110°6′W / 36.983°N 110.1°W / 36.983; -110.1), near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.

The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely Cutler Red siltstone or its sand deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide.

The buttes are clearly stratified, with three principal layers. The lowest layer is Organ Rock shale, the middle de Chelly sandstone and the top layer is Moenkopi shale capped by Shinarump siltstone. The valley includes large stone structures including the famed Eye of the Sun.

Between 1948 and 1967, the southern extent of the Monument Upwarp was mined for uranium, which occurs in scattered areas of the Shinarump siltstone; vanadium and copper are associated with uranium in some deposits (see Uranium mining in Arizona).

This is the famous monument at Glenfinnan, a stone tower surmounted by a statue of a kilted highlander with Loch Shiel beyond.

A deleted scene on the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets DVD shows Harry Potter sitting overlooking this loch. This was filmed from where I took this shot.

Took this just before the rain came, using a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens and Cokin ND grad filters.

When you go to iconic places like Monument Valley to capture a landscape, the usual scenario is to get a tack sharp landscape. However, a dust storm had blown through the valley the night before, contributing to the haze of the sunrise. You take what you can get get and try to make the best of it. Nikon D850/Tamron 15-30

This is one of the vistas I was looking forward to in planning a short trip to Monument Valley. On the left are the East and West Mitten Buttes, so named as they appear to be two giant mittens. A bit to the right of them is Merrick Butte. All three are each over 6,000 feet tall.

The Wallace Monument in Striling, Scotland, which looks to me quite like a dark wizard tower.

Aurangzeb declared his own father - ShahJahan, incompetent to rule and put him under house arrest in Agra Fort. During his eight years long ailment and imprisonment, ShahJahan used to intensely view The Taj (the monument of love that Mughal Emperor ShahJahan gave to the world as a testimony of his intense love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal). The last days of his life were spent helplessly looking at his beloved Taj from his captivity in the Shah Burj of the Agra Fort across the river Yamuna. It is said that ShahJahan kept on gazing at the Taj Mahal till his last breath. When you visit the Agra Fort, one could sense the solitude and grief of an old powerless emperor even centuries later. It reminds us of the grief of a once powerful emperor transformed to penury in his last days and the longing of a lover to be united with his beloved

roadtrip to this beautiful valley.

Des roches, des cailloux, le désert et un ciel bleu avec de jolie nuages.

Monument Rocks, Kansas. These tall rocks are so fascinating since they are standing out in the middle of nowhere. Rising dramatically from the flat plains of western Kansas, Monument Rocks are a stunning series of ancient chalk formations formed nearly 80 million years ago. As the sun sets over the Kansas plains, its golden light spills across the rock, igniting the chalk formations in brilliant hues of red and orange.

A very stormy & rainy day in Monument Valley.

The National Monument on Calton Hill in Edinburgh is Scotland's memorial to those who died in the Napoleonic Wars. The designers of the monument, Charles Cockerell and William Playfair, were said to have been inspired by the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, but after work started in 1822 only the twelve columns seen today were ever completed.

Penshaw Monument officially The Earl of Durham's Monument, is a folly built in 1844 on Penshaw Hill between the districts of Washington and Houghton-le-Spring, within the City of Sunderland, North East England. It is dedicated to John Lambton (1792–1840), 1st Earl of Durham and the first Governor of the Province of Canada

The Doric tetrastyle monument is 30 metres (98 ft) long, 16 metres (52 ft) wide and 20 metres (66 ft) high. The columns are each 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) in diameter. It was designed by John and Benjamin Green and built by Thomas Pratt of Sunderland, based on the Doric order.

Resting on the columns is the entablature which itself can be split into three main parts. The architrave, the main spanning beam across the tops of the pillars. Above the architrave is the frieze, the central patterned section. Then the cornice is the upper part which projects outwards. Finally, the pediments are the triangular facings at each end of the Monument. One of the pillars contains a spiral staircase to a walkway around the top of the monument.

The Monument is made of gritstone from the Marquess of Londonderry's quarries on the east coast. Steel pins and brackets were used to hold the stone blocks in place

The Champlain Monument on Dufferin Terrace pays tribute to the man who founded the city in 1608.

It is one of the city's landmarks, because of its size and its central location.

He was stumped by what he was looking at.
