There's a quotation from Richard Henry Dana's Two Years Before the Mast that describes men getting sick when going up into the rigging for the first time.

Een stukje monument (of versiering) van het oude Centraal Station in Rotterdam heeft een plek gekregen in het nieuwe station. Stukje na-oorlogse wederopbouwnostalgie in moderne setting.

Monument Valley, Arizona. Early Morning. No crop. 02/2017

Monument Valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, with the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. The most famous butte formations are located in northeastern Arizona along the Utah–Arizona state line. The valley is considered sacred by the Navajo Nation, the Native American people within whose reservation it lies.

This interesting memorial is near Dunning in Perthshire.

Here we are at the top, looking back at the monument. The last time we were here was in December last year in the snow. What a difference a few months has made to the weather up here, it was much warmer. That said there was still a wind blowing from the south west, although it wasn’t cold, it was strong enough to create sea like waves on top of the cup of coffee we stopped for, sat on the rocks just to the left of the monument. Maybe next time we’re here it will be nice enough to bring a cold drink instead of a hot flask, one can hope.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

These photos were taken from the cabins (where we stayed two nights) at Monument Valley on the first evening. The best room with a view we had on our trip!

A mitten and other monuments.

At 555 ft tall it is the world's tallest stone structure. Work on the giant obelisk began in 1848 but wasn't completed till 1888 due to a lack of funds, engineering challenges and the intervention of the American Civil War.
