The Wupatki National Monument is a United States National Monument located in north-central Arizona, near Flagstaff. Rich in Native American archaeological sites, the monument is administered by the National Park Service in close conjunction with the nearby Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.

Monument Valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, with the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. The most famous butte formations are located in northeastern Arizona along the Utah–Arizona state line. The valley is considered sacred by the Navajo Nation, the Native American people within whose reservation it lies.

Here we are at the top, looking back at the monument. The last time we were here was in December last year in the snow. What a difference a few months has made to the weather up here, it was much warmer. That said there was still a wind blowing from the south west, although it wasn’t cold, it was strong enough to create sea like waves on top of the cup of coffee we stopped for, sat on the rocks just to the left of the monument. Maybe next time we’re here it will be nice enough to bring a cold drink instead of a hot flask, one can hope.
