Japan is a highly contextual society; you're supposed to understand when
people are unhappy with you. As an American, I couldn't always understand
when my host mom was upset with me. Japanese people are not confrontational
by nature, but my host mom compromised by writing me letter to tell me when
I was doing something wrong. I chose to show this letter because it's
really funny: my host mom was complaining about my smelly feet and telling
me to put my shoes in a plastic bag when I took them off after entering the
house. In my defense, walking around Tokyo in Monsoon season makes your
feet really sweaty and smelly.
The kids enjoyed finding bones. By the time we were done we had a few skulls and numerous jaw bones.
Day 2 - we got camp reset and all went well. Great weather, just a few sprinkles but tons of nasty cicada! Otherwise lots of fun!

Pine, AZ. As we drove up to Happy Jack the weather grew darker and more monsoon like. We reached Happy Jack and a dry camp site to only later be washed out to the point of having to abandon camp to only hope and start out fresh the next day.

The onset of the Southwest Monsoon is less than a month away. I hope it is extremely active, not just because we can always use the rain, but because of all the awesome photo ops it provides! - Zuni Mountains, New Mexico

The cheery Arizona poppies (Arizona caltrop, orange caltrop, summer poppy) are blooming, thanks to the summer rainy season. This shot was taken in Catalina State Park on August 20, 2011. When a poppy is not fully open, it has a bowl-like shape that catches the morning sun and glows brightly. Some hairy buds are visible in this shot.
Families pool their resources and use a donkey and cart to transport food parcels back home in Jacobabad, Sindh province. When the monsoon floods left families without a means to feed themselves, the Red Cross Red Crescent responded by carrying out two rounds of food distribution, reaching almost 2.5 million people.

Manola, I don't think we are in Arizona anymore.
Manola is my dog.
My town has been hit with a lot of rain lately.
Now, I am used to monsoon season in Arizona, and it is actually my complete favorite thing, almost in the whole world.
Hearing the roar of the rain and the thunder in the desert is just breathtaking to me.
Me and my dad would pull up chairs and just watch.
Anywho, apparently the season this year has lasted longer than usual.
My parent's house is in a hilly area, and it looked like I was in Ireland, let alone southern Arizona.
It blew me away.
Completely breathtaking.
Also, when it rains it smells like wet dirt here, and its my favorite smell in the whole world.
its actually sprinkling in the picture
My dogs were happy.

Ulsoor Lake at sunset. Press "L" for a beautiful black background.
This is my first photo, from my trip to India, that I've uploaded. Ulsoor Lake is one of the biggest places in Bangalore, India. It is a popular place for the local college students and youth and also an all around calm and fun place. The lake is viewable from all around, but this is my favorite view. The lake is quite large and looks wonderful at sunset. More Info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halasuru

I'll admit that I'm scared during a lightning storm like this because I live on the top floor of a 6 story building and i'm not sure if the grounding is done properly. Especially when lightning is hitting things below you less than 200 yards away (this strike was about 1 km away.)

For The Sunday Challenge, "Weather."
We were at the Grand Canyon during monsoon season, so the heavens opened every evening between dinner and dusk. We're huddled in the North Rim Lodge waiting for it to stop so we can get back to our cabin.

From a meteorological standpoint, the 2012 Monsoon ended yesterday, September 13th, with a shift back to westerly prevailing winds and a big drop in humidity. The calendar-based 'Monsoon Season' continues until the end of the month. After a slow start and a hot, dusty dry July, precipitation in late August and early September finally pushed the monsoon rainfall total up to just a little short of average (2.69 inches recorded at Weather Station ZD1). The official monsoon rainfall total at PHX Sky Harbor airport was slightly above average, although year to date precipitation is still far below normal. Despite some temporary relief, including some major flooding in a few places, Arizona remains under moderate to extreme drought conditions statewide. - My Rooftop View, Phoenix, Arizona
