We made it down to Mono Hot Springs in one piece, although several times we almost ran into oncoming traffic on the one lane road trickled onto granite ledges and graced with many a blind curve. We quickly erected our humble camping domiciles and set off to relieve our stress in one of the many hot springs the bubble invitingly across the river from our camp.

Rancheria Falls. It looks big in the picture, but really these falls were absolutely MASSIVE. They towered high above us and the water went far out of this frame down into a large deep riverbed. During the winter, this river is a raging force of nature.

Was able to capture the Big Dipper with Comet Neowise from Mono Hot Springs, Ca evening of July 17th.

This meadow was up at 8,000ft elevation.

Hot water, almost scalding, seeped into the pool through the ooze of the bottom. Those bubbles you see are not mine. They are bubbles of carbon dioxide with a slight hint of sulfur coming from the depths of the earth. Yes, the waters of Mono Hot Springs are carbonated.

In the early morning, I thought I heard rain falling on our tent. When I went outside, I realized it was actually snowing. Snowing on a moonlit night -- so so surreal.

This was my car the morning after. The day before, we had been running around in tank tops, shorts, and flip flops.

The marsh between the upper and lower campground loops (i.e., the Zen garden).

Ruby catching rocks in the river.

Here is Cammie crossing the river by herself. She can also climb rocks vertically using her bear like claws.

We've never caught a fish here in the 4 years we've been coming. The Saltzmans are not fisherman.. apparently.

David wanted to see all the hot springs the lined the meadow, so off we went to find them. A lot of water rises to the surface here at the meadow, some hot, some cold. All that water saturated the ground and made a lot of mud. People had placed stepping stones here and there to get across the mud, but to no avail. Our sandals became coated with mud.

I need a long soak after the hair-raising ride over Kaiser Pass.

Our sister camp next door.
