... these baobabs have surely and stoically witnessed all that have passed through this sea-side gate (porta do mar) of this great Bassein fort.
I don't know if it was the cast iron skillet I used or what, but this was the best savory monkeybread I ever made.

I have always wanted to make this, Monkey Bread!!! It came out really good, everybody loved it! I added some walnuts I had left over from Saturday nights dinner.
.:*MONKEY BREAD*:.
•4 cans refrigerator biscuits (about 40)
•1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
•1/2 cup butter
•1 cup white sugar
•1 cup brown sugar, packed
•1/2 cup pecans, raisins and/or coconut, if desired
Cut each biscuit into 4 pieces. Pour sugar and cinnamon into a plastic
bag and mix.
Add biscuit pieces, several at a time; shake to coat well.
Place pieces in a buttered tube or Bundt pan until all are used.
Sprinkle layers with nuts, raisins or coconut.
Bring brown sugar and butter to a boil in saucepan. Cool 10 minutes, then
pour over top of biscuits.
Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes. Allow to cool 15 minutes before
removing from pan. Turn upside down to serve. I also make a quick icing to drizzle on top.

The spelling of "monkey" seems kind of odd, like it might mean something other than the primate.
Simple enough to make:
Dough, Dry,
- 3 1/4 C flower (flour, yes)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 satchet yeast (fast acting for me)
Wet,
- 1 C milk
- 1/3 C water
- 4 tbsp butter (melted)
- 1 tbsp Vanilla
Sticky covering,
- 1/2 C butter, melted
- 1 C brown sugar
- lots of cinnamon, a touch of nutmeg, and (if you're me) crushed walnut
Mix dry and wet ingredients separately then add dry to wet (or slowly wet to dry, avoiding clumps)
preheat oven to 200 F, turn it off, cover dough and let dough rise 1-2 hours in warm oven, then take it out. Spread on surface with lots of flour and cut into 64 pieces, making them round.
Mix the brown sugar and add cinnamon till it smells nice (I like a LOT of cinnamon!), nutmeg, and walnut.
Dip each ball into the butter to cover it, then roll it in the brown sugar/cinnamon mix, and add it to bundt pan.
Cover again and let rise in warm oven for 30-60 min.
Preheat oven 350 and bake 25-30 min. Add icing. Enjoy!
