Monks at Palcho Monastery, Gyantse. The idea of Buddhist monks holding mobile phones so ostentatiously seems strange to me. It's like they're taking photos of us! Aren't we the tourists around here???

Every now and then, monks come walking through the neighborhood, chanting and asking for alms.

At dawn hundreds of monks and novices emerge from the monasteries of Loikaw to collect alms among the pious Buddhists of the town.

I stayed at a Buddhist monastery in Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh and I was star attraction once again!

Every day thousand of monks go for some food, money, flowers and others from Burmese people.

Here's a monk praying outside of Phuoc Loc Tho Asian Mall. At first I wasn't sure if he was a statue or not, because he was pretty still, but then I came closer and saw that he was sweating a river.

While an introduced species to North America, they are well adapted to the North American climate and ecosystems. They seem to be enlarging their range especially over the past decade in my area.

Quaker (Monk) Parakeet Description

The Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus), also known as the Quaker Parrot, is a species of parrot that originated in the temperate areas of Argentina and Brazil in South America. It is the only member of the genus Myiopsitta. This parrot is, on average, 29 cm long with a 48 cm wingspan, and weighs 100 g. Females tend to be 10-20% smaller. It has bright green upperparts. The forehead and breast are pale grey and the rest of the underparts are very-light green to yellow. The flight feathers are dark blue, and the tail is long and tapering. The bill is orange. The call is a loud and throaty graaa or skveet. Domestic breeds have produced colors other than the natural plumage; these include white and blue in place of green.

The Monk Parakeet is the only parrot that builds a stick nest, in a tree or on a man-made structure, rather than using a hole in a tree. This gregarious species often breeds colonially, building a single large nest with separate entrances for each pair. In the wild, the colonies can become quite large, with pairs occupying separate "apartments" in nests that can reach the size of a small automobile. These nests can attract many other tenants including birds of prey such as the Spot-winged Falconet, ducks such as the Speckled Teal and even mammals. Their 5-12 eggs hatch in about 24 days.

Unusually for a parrot, Monk Parakeet pairs occasionally have helper individuals, often a grown offspring, which assists with feeding the young .

Monk Parakeets are highly intelligent, social birds.

June 24, 2017 - We were only allowed to take pictures/videos with cellphones of the debating monks. This afternoon we had the opportunity to go on an optional tour of the Sera and Papungka Monasteries which I didn't want to miss. "Sera Monastery, one of the largest of the Gelugpa sect. In the Tibetan language, sera means "wild rose garden." The monastery earned the name for the opulent wild roses that grew all around the site centuries ago. At its peak, the monastery was the home for more than 7,000 monks. While the number of roses and monks have diminished with the passage of time, the monastery and its grounds have only increased in cultural significance and emotional power. Built in 1419 - the year that the sect's founder, Je Tsongkhapa, died-Sera Monastery features the largest tsokchen (main assembly hall) in the town, four stories high and with nearly 11,000 square feet of floor space. The monastery was built to house precious gifts from the emperor to one of Je Tsongkhapa's disciples." Previous text from OAT trip booklet.

Nestled in the heart of rural Sussex, Monk’s House is a tranquil 17th-century weatherboarded cottage inhabited by Leonard and the novelist Virginia Woolf from 1919 until Leonards death in 1969.

The Woolfs bought Monk's House for the 'shape and fertlity and wildness of the garden'. Today, the lovely cottage garden contains a mix of flowers, vegetables, orchards, lawns and ponds.
