Snowberry Matchbox ship model from the 70s (not in a very good shape-the mast is gone and other small parts missing)
Now I was going to wait until after the appropriate Alfreton model day photos had been uploaded in relation to this, but that has been overtaken by my impatience to show off a model... so here is a model.
After Dennis Arrow 403 I started work on refreshing the look of some other Nottingham Network liveried models I've painted, aiming for some more accurate colours and graphics so that they no longer look terrible. Taking that into account, it probably seems strange that the latest model to emerge from a refresh is this ungodly thing.
'This ungodly thing' is the Nottingham City Transport Weymann bodied AEC Renown that I first put together in 2019, and you're probably thinking "no, Tim, that's a Lodekka you fool", and you'd be right. This is a Lodekka that I hacked parts off and bunged bits together in order to create a decent-ish representation of a Nottingham Renown. Such is el-cheapo modelling.
My original painting on it from 2019 was pretty dire, and some glue I'd used on it had gone discoloured so it wasn't in any kind of presentable state. I didn't really care for a while, but at Alfreton were other models people had done of the Renowns, and it made me really want to get mine fixed up. In order to get it done in a timely manner I didn't do much to it beyond a small amount of Milliput and fresh paint.
In the far flung future, I want to go back and do a certain level of rebuilding to this model, to neaten up some of the parts that still looked bodged, paint cream around the windows properly, and address the fact that the overall height is still that of a Lodekka and much too low for one of the tall-looking Nottingham Renowns. But that won't be any time soon because I dread trying to redo all that cream paint to a uniform standard again.
On the subject of paint, the green is much lighter now and pretty much on par with how light the green is on factory-issued NCT models from EFE and Britbus. Helpfully that means I've found a from-the-tin green that can reasonably be used for some NCT liveries without me having to mix it (and avoiding the pain of never quite being able to mix the same shade twice).
Less can be said, though, for the cream; why do paint manufacturers offer 'cream' when it's actually more like beige, and too dark for a typical 'bus livery cream'?! It needs to be mixed with white, and for whatever stupid reason it never mixes the same way twice. The fact I've got at least three more green and cream models to repaint doesn't fill me with joy.
So, as a summary, the improvements made to 375 are a neater coat of paint with lighter green, slightly more painted detail on the front grille and headlights, some Milliput above the door and a couple of other places, and side adverts. For now, it'll do just fine.
This was the first pic I ever took of a model when I tagged along on a rather drunken groupshoot a couple of years ago armed only with my old Fuji compact. Still don't know how I fluked this. I doubt i'd be able to do it again with my proper camera even now :)
