Modding a TV-B-Gone into the case of a vintage remote.
Two major modifications have been made to the circuit. The standard power supply, consisting of two different input voltages from three (slightly expensive and slightly hard to replace) lithium coin cell batteries, has been removed and replaced with a 9 V battery and a micropower voltage regulator. The 9 V battery fits into the original battery compartment of the remote and provides the higher voltage necessary to drive two infrared LEDs, the one from the old remote as well as the one from the TV-B-Gone. The micropower regulator produces 3 V to drive the logical end of the circuit without draining the 9 V battery faster than necessary. The second modification is that the original on/off button on the vintage remote now activates the TV-B-Gone.
This is how the modified circuit looks just before closing up the case. To the right of the TV-B-Gone PCB, you can see the LM2936-3.0 voltage regulator and its support capacitors.

Tons of folks modify their FF YT-1300s for engine glow. Here's my attempt.
Camera settings make the glow appear far more blue than it is (4 cool white LEDs and two teal LEDs on either end).
Just arrived, a box of cheap 3x3x3 cubes (2 Euro per cube) to try some different mods.
While trying to disassemble one of them some of the pieces broke (very thin plastic...) but at least now I know how I can disassemble them without breaking any more pieces.
Good thing is that they turn rather good, especially if lubricated.
Look forward to some pictures of what will become of them :-)
