1978 Motobecane 50V Mobylette built in France.
My next door neighbors husband bought this used moped back in 2003 and left it sit in his garage for the last 20 years untouched. He had a debilitating stroke about 15 years ago and fast forward to Fall 2022 his wife wanted to get rid of it and I offered to take it.
Initial inspection showed no spark but the engine spun freely, the empty gas tank interior was covered in surface rust, both tires were dry rotted and flat but I recognized the potential for a rebuild.
After a complete tear down including the 50cc 1 1/2 hp two stroke engine, I slowly cleaned all the pitting on the chrome parts, chemically removed the rust inside the gas tank, de-greased the frame and polished the original paint back to a high luster. Rebuilt the engine with new gaskets, bearings and rings. Added a new Dellorato carb and manifold. Replaced all the control cables and bought new tires and tubes (just had to go with the wide whites) any damaged fasteners were replaced with new.
After everything was fully reassembled, last week I fired it up and took my first ride. What a blast hitting a whopping 25mph ;-)

The Mobylette Cady was the cheapest moped sold in Spain back in 1981, costing only 40.000 pesetas (240€ at today's change rate)
As many tennagers, I was a littlle bit stupid …
The crash occured duting a wild ride, in the wood named "Bois de Boulogne", at full night…
I din't see the obstacle and I went over the handlebars. I was very lucky that night!

Je ne vis qu'à la dernière seconde la petite rivière qui me barrait la route;

On the main road of Don-Khône island
Don-Khône (Laos) - We are on the main road that goes around the small island of Don-Khône. Needless to say that few vehicles circulate on this road axis. For travel, bicycles, mopeds and scooters are kings.
I had stopped my scooter in this small hamlet to see if there were a few fishermen on the Mekong, located to the left (off-screen) of the photo. Only an old woman took her morning toilet there. I walked away on tiptoe to respect his privacy. I stood on the side of the road for a few moments when this young girl arrived on her bicycle. While I was waiting for her to reach a reasonable distance to take my photo, the old lady who a few minutes earlier was bathing in the waters of the river, discreetly invited herself into my composition

Vespino was a Mobylette-style moped produced by Moto Vespa from 1968 up to the early 2000’s, when the Madrid factory closed after Piaggio changed hands. As a transport alternative, it was cheap and reliable, with a low-maintenance, forced air-cooled 49 cc engine.
